MY 2018 JCW has a switch on dash under the large LCD which lets me disable the engine auto stop/start feature. There is a red LED on when this feature is disabled but the light is not bothersome.

I have not tried this but I suspect in sport mode the engine auto stop/start feature would be disabled.

Not sure I understand your question. You buy an OBD dongle, download the app and make the coding changes. The auto stop is one of the predefined ones.

This is coming from my experience with my 2015 F56. Start/Stop can be disabled simply by flipping that toggle shown in post #3 and the car will remember if it was on or off upon startup. Start/Stop works in all three modes. And when switching from mid mode to green mode Start/Stop will automatically turn on but can be once again turned off by hitting the toggle.

Start/Stop only functions is Green Mode...Otherwise just "Flip the Switch" to thefar left and the red light will come on and disable Start/Stop

Unfortunately on the 2020 the car does not remember/hold auto/start stop in last position. The function will default to enable when car started ...

UGH ...

Was hoping to permanently disable without having to flip the switch at each start ....

This is how my wife's 2019 Clubman works.

Then that is something new, my '17 remembers the setting and ties it to the fob, so you could have one fob with it disabled and one with it enabled. My wife's '19 Wrangler is the same way and I haven't fully formatted myself to punch the disable button every time I drive it, so occasionally it will shut off when I stop to leave my street...gggrrrrr! I understand your frustration, but the only way to take care of that is to code it out via one of the available apps for our cars. Plenty of info on this forum and interwebs about them. Good luck.

They must have changed it for the 20' models cause my 19' doesn't do that. Just flip the toggle and it stays off.

You can use Bimmercode to make the car “remember” the last Start-Stop setting before you switched off the car. If you switch it off before, it will stay off when you start the car. I coded mine 2019 MCS and it worked.

I apologize for being confused, but my 2019 JCW (no Biimmercoding) defaults on each restart to Mid-Mode with the auto stop/start disabled. If I flip to sport-mode, auto stop/start is still disabled. If I flip to Green-Mode, the auto start/stop then becomes enabled without doing anything else. But at anytime I can toggle the start/stop to the opposite position. This has changed I guess.

I have a manual JCW. It’s taken me 5000 miles to realize I need the car to be in neutral, with clutch not depressed for auto stop to work. So rarely is this the case, I dont even bother turning it off

Oh, a dongle is needed. I understand now. Thanks.

My habit when driving a manual is to always -- with few exceptions -- shift the transmission into neutral and release the clutch pedal. This helps prolong the life of the throw out/release bearing. I am adept enough that when the time comes I can depress the clutch and shift the transmission in to 1st and release the clutch and take off without holding up vehicles behind mine. (I when I can observe the lights for the other direction and often anticipate the light change.)

I felt the same way when I got my 2019 - "UGH" with the auto start/stop, but I find the f'ing rattles in the car when I'm idling at a light to be so annoying, I actually enjoy the peace and quiet the auto on/off offers. Especially when in sport!

Guess I have been driving for too long. The auto stop/start feature is a bit unnerving. An engine shutting off at idle when stopped just puts me on high alert. And I jump a tiny bit when I'm stopped at a light and I hear the vehicle next to mine its engine start.

Yup, same for my 2019 F57. I fully expected to have to code it to stay off, but my MA pointed out during delivery that the car remembers the setting.

I'd love to hear your car. My 2019 seemed to develop an idle rattle at about 4,000 miles. It sound like it comes from a hollow plastic housing in the engine bay somewhere. Maybe a vacuum pump or something. It's not a metallic lifter or chain sound. Anyway, one day I'll try to investigate. It's not that annoying, but it's there.

This may be a dumb question, but when did MINI start putting the Auto Start/Stop function on Manual Transmission F56 MINI's? My 2015 JCW doesn't have it! So thankful it doesn't, because my new 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee has it and I don't care for it one bit! There has to be a better way to save fuel...maybe just drive less? :-)

My March 2015 manual F56 S has it. Although my car remembers if I had it turned off or on for the last drive. I've been driving a 2020 F55 and a 2020 F54 as loaners for the last few weeks and they both have it on regardless if I turned it off. So that's kinda annoying. I wonder if BimmerCode could change it to be like my car.
