See you there. I shall be on the north end of the Dragon at the Dragon Pitt Inn with Dennis and Jane, and will search out the Tarheel group early on Friday. Hope to meet y'all in person.

Cheers,

Charlie

Hmmmmmm.....
I have mixed feelings about the styling...

I like the wing and the back diffuser. I like the egg crate front grill. Don’t like the red stripe through the front grill. I like the red below the front grill.

The wheel flares - I just don’t “get” those.
Are they functional? Or just styling

I see the serial number on the front wheel flare. It looks like xx11; can’t read the “xx” part of it.

A UK car. Maybe getting some GPs to their market before Brexit????

My dealer says they won’t get anything until next year (late spring or summer, maybe?)

And thanks for posting!

I wonder how long it will take for someone to program the speedo/tach thingy over to the Gen III JCW?

My dealer said I would get it June if I decide to buy it. I wonder what the price is going to be. I sure hope under $50k. That just seems a lot and not very competative to other performance hatchbacks. But we will see.

I read somewhere that there would be 5 options available, but that was some time ago and I have heard nothing about it since then. My dealer told me order in March of 2020 and expect to receive sometime between July and September.

All that plastic cladding on the side reminds me of the first model of the Chevy Avalanche. That's gonna take some getting used to.
I liked the original prototype, but the only outside styling bits that remain from the prototype is the wing.

The price is going to be for it being unique more so than to be competitive to other hatches. Although, in the States here, I wonder how many other hot hatches will match or better the GP3? For strictly performance, that kind of money will get you a M2 Competition. And for a few more than that you can get a C8 Corvette (so they say)...

It will come down to whether you want a really high performance, unique, limited edition hot hatch that no one else in your area will likely ever see 2 of....

And whether you can scratch together the $50k or so they will likely be asking for it... I hope you get one, if you can...

As styling cues go... That’s not one I would go for...

Id love to get one, hope I can, have a little bit of time to save but I am pretty young so dont make the big bucks...yet hopefully lol.

I can say its my favorite car design but I still like it some, wish it was a little lighter grey. But like you say, I bought my 02 mini so it was something different then everyone else. This is the same.

I plan to have it, the GP, wrapped providing that I get one! You won't be able to touch a C8 you would want for less than the upper 60's/ low 70's. I sat in one last week and the interior was already coming apart, but it had been making the rounds and most likely had several thousand butts in it before mine! I am not ready to trade the C7 in on one yet!

Well, I'm a bit sad to see how MINI has totally botched up a great concept GP styling!...if that truly is what the new GP will look like in the flesh, I can say that I'm not a fan!

Mini marketing tactics are bizarre in a changing automotive market. The concept really ignited a fire, but the mini brain trust seems to keep having brain farts! I lost my #1 slot when Mini of Louisville tanked. Supposedly I have the #2 slot with mini of Cincinnati. If for some reason they only get one GP3 then I am out in the cold and may go ahead and get the C8 and keep the C7 Z06, but I really would rather have the GP! The F56 JCW is still my all time favorite with just enough tweaking to make if fast enough to suit in most situations and still be a comfortable riding toy to and from good twisties and tracks. We are working on 50K miles now and it has been almost flawless. I can live without the GP, but I really want to give it a shot. If I manage to get one I think with a good wrap it can resemble the concept more close. The red and black was quite striking and I will see how closely it can be mirrored with a bit of wrap and and some tweaks.

I am. looking forward to seeing all your GP`s especially the wrapped ones. I will not miss getting an engine like this in a MINI, and I also will not miss the Aero, and it's for sure my 1st Automatic.
I drive an equal powered 310hp Performance MINI and I have to tell you, that a price around 50.000 is more than reasonable, for those which can use it proper

I always would take the

MINI to the track, 1100 Kgs versus 1.650

It's horrible! Fugly! Totally missed the mark! Nobody should get in line for one! (it'll make it easier for me to get mine hahahahahahahaha!)

FUGLY is appropriate for what they have done with the color scheme, but looks are secondary to performance and it should be stellar. I had planned to have it wrapped before I saw the actual car rather than one with the camo, and actually I like the camo wrapped one better than the final version decor scheme.

Moving on with the GP discussion I think I read somewhere that there would be 5 options + or - available for the GP. I wonder what they will be if mini offers any at all.

the tune uses the engine of a GP3 that`s all, and as you don't get "Rebel Green" for the GP3 I wrapped it already test wise some years ago.

For even $10k more, the M2 Comp every single time, plus it's rwd. The F56 JCW 6MT weighs 2845 lbs, I'd be very surprised if they can get the GP down to that weight with the new engine/transmission combo.

JCW weights with some weight reduction:
https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4497031
2860# before
2740# after

Not any where close to 1100kg (2420#). Even with the rear seat deleted, the GP isn’t going to be that low in weight; not as a production car. Maybe it will be a little less than 2700#.

Ok, curb weight ;-)

Do you know that the rubber floor sealing is nearly 1o kgs? The Makrolon rear is further 10 kgs, oh - 20 kilos in total both seats and so on, there are other sections like carbon hood 12 kgs, the battery 20 kgs, which I won't tell you ;-) only that I keep the genuine JCW intercooler to avoid recycled aluminum, as the GP3 does.
