Exhaust Contentment

Hey guys,

Well, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a 2016 JCW manual. I have already opted for the JCW Pro suspension to be installed upon arrival, but this leads to the next logical question, Do I go the distance and get the PRO exhaust as well??

Now that many of you have settled in with your cars, can you tell me, overall, how happy are you with the volume of the factory exhaust? I have heard that it "opens up" a bit after ownership. Can you confirm this? Also, do any of you who haven't already plan on upgrading to any aftermarket system?

Any feedback is appreciated!

-Kevin

the pro exhaust is nice...but way overpriced for what you're getting. yeah the bluetooth valve control is cute...but that's all it is...cute...i have the AWE Tuning Touring Edition exhaust and it has the right sound, not too aggressive, but the right tone to make you happy....and a better price.

Thanks for the reply. I do really like the tone of that system. Is it noticeably louder than the stock JCW exhaust?

Kevin,

the JCW exhaust is a little over wrought & expensive. It does not provide any "real" value or power.
Do ur self a favor and go with the AWE system. The tips alone are almost worth the price itself. AWE saw some nice gains on their dyno too.
I have the track edition & it sounds mean. Nice mean though.

What's the difference in price? I somehow got the impression you had to buy the JCW ECU tune and the exhaust as a package deal and so that's how some people ended up with the exhaust (because they wanted the tune). I guess I'm referring to people who bought the MCS but still...

I'm not sure on a dealer quote, but the shop in Raleigh NC told me out the door price for $2K for just the JCW Pro exhaust installed on my JCW. So I opted for $800 on the AWE track and put it on myself.

I disagree with that, it added 8 hp at the wheel on my JCW and It sounds very similar to the AWE that you have here. If you check my post there is an image of the exhaust on the car during verified dyno runs. The run with the exhaust closed it was 261 wheel HP and 269 with the valve open. It is on a different thread. There is a considerable difference in the price though.

Ill take 10-12 hp with way nicer tips from AWE for ~ $900 vs 8 Hp for $2000.00 from JCW.

I won't argue the price, but do you have dynamometer results for the horsepower? Although it didn't cost me $2,000 either.

Cool, please post the graphs, I would like to see them with the horsepower and toque curves for comparison.

Richard,

Thanks for posting these videos; your car sounds great. I'm amazed how tame it is at idle and light throttle for essentially having a muffler delete.

I was unable to find the dyno graphs with the HP and torque numbers. I did watch the video though and it does sound good. So, where are the graphs?

I don't really care about that, but you stated 10-12 horsepower and dynamometer graphs are specific not a range. I don't know you or Josh, but you state as facts, I simply was interested in facts to support your statements. All the graphs I have seen or paid to have done give specific results, not generalizations. I had my JCW on a dynamometer as did Jetmachinic and they gave us very specific horsepower and torque numbers in printed and/or digital formats that were specific not a range. There is a difference between S.W.A.G. and verified results. Enjoy your mini, I do mine.

I'm getting my JCW Pro exhaust installed on my 2016 JCW next Friday. I've done quite a bit of reading on this, and watched lots of videos, and really like the JCW system. It's a bit more expensive, but I got a great deal on it, and it's covered under the factory warranty for 4 years or 50,000 miles. Wasn't really concerned about power gains, but it sounds like you even get that, too.

Post up a sound or video after install, that JCW Pro tuning kit sounds so good.

There are opened and closed versions on jetmachanic's thread in this forum. The opened one is great, however, the closed one is surprisingly tame. There is an 8 HP difference between the modes with the PRO exhaust. There is a .1 HP difference between his (jetmachinc) AWE system and my JCW PRO open, 269.1 AWE and 269.0 JCW PRO. It's all good.

Stock Exhaust

I've got 9K miles on my 2016 JCW 6MT and must admit it's gotten a bit louder and mellower with age. I had a Remus on my 2014 MCS 6MT and don't feel there is a lot difference between the two with the valve open on the Remus (never ran them side by side just a subjective opinion).

YMMV
