Was looking at a 2006 GP locally here. KBB doesnt give a value. But Edmunds TMV is crazy low! And NADA retail Value is only 12k!

Hard to Believe!

I believe it. 10 years is about the right amount of time for a potentially collectible car to bottom out in price. Now would be a great time to buy one. The problem will be finding a GP owner willing to part with one for book value.

A 2013 GP was at the Mecum Auction last night in Anaheim, CA & it didn't sell @ $24,000. I don't know what the reserve. Nice looking MINI!

The problem is you need to find one that's been kept stock for the collector value to be there. Most I've seen have been pretty customized.

If a private party was selling one for $8700 near me I'd be looking at buying it. The few I've noticed have been much higher. A 2013 is nearby at a dealer for $29K, too much for me to deal with.

Think the value is all over the place on those KBB sites. Its like a secret in the MINI world these are worth more.

Take a look at this GP up for auction on Bring-a-trailer. At current bid of $8K, I think it is good value. Problem is the BaT gang does not seem to see the value in GP's so it might be got at a good price.

I was high bidder on this auction at $12.5k, didn't meet reserve. I think I've worked out a deal with the seller at the reserve price (which was very fair) and hope to wrap up the deal this week. I almost bought one earlier this year with similar mileage that was asking $18k, but we didn't meet on price and he sold it to another party.

I've been watching these for a while and it seems that the asking prices are all in the mid-teens to low twenties mileage and condition dependent. As mentioned above, I think the prices on these have bottomed out for low mileage cars that are nearly stock.

Saw that you were the high bidder. I think I may have bought the GP you were trying to buy earlier in the year I bought 1393 from John in Flower Mound.

I agree, they are both in similar condition / miles / ETC. I will tell you, the GP's are a complete blast to drive. I took out 1393 out to the track this past weekend and had a great time. Now I just need to do some track mods that keep the spirit of the car intact, while turning fast laps at our local race tracks.

If you can get a GP for 12K thats the deal of a lifetime. I have only seen one and it was steal from a local carmax who did not know what it was, priced it like a Cooper S JCW kit w/ low miles.

They don't actually have a book/auction value as there are too few to collect data on.

They do have somewhat of a book value for banks/lending...unfortunately it is based off of a Cooper S w/ JCW kit. Actual real world values are whatever owners currently want to list them for. I've seen values all over the place though, just depends how badly the owners want to sell them

There has never been strong demand for the GP models, and this is reflected in the resale values. The supply may be low, but the demand is also low.

^I think this is the issue^.

There are certain cars that just don't track well on Edmunds or KBB, because there are too few of them. Another way you can see the actual value of a car is to check 'completed items' in eBay. That'll give you a feel for what people actually agreed to pay for an item.

NADA is the only guide who lists is correctly but you have to go to the classics section.
The MC40 is in there too.

Here's the GP1

That's funny you have to go to the classic section.

Hey at least you can point someone to a link where they actually show the value of the GP. Thanks EurotechsAZ for posting.

Update: I was the high bidder for #0813 on the Bring a Trailer auction. I did come to an agreement with the seller post-auction. Now that it's all final I don't mind sharing some details. The final agreed price was $15,750.00. It cost me $750 to get it picked up from the L.A. area by the time the seller needed the space, and will be in my garage in TX on the 4th of Jan. From the photos and description, it's as nice or maybe a little nicer than #1393 that I looked at earlier this year (#1393 was very nice) and if it is as advertised, I'll likely only need to change the tires in the near future. I'll share more when it arrives...

Sorry for the very delayed response. GP 0813 is safe and snug in my garage these days, and aside from a lost title (thanks, CA DMV) all went smoothly with the transaction. The car is very clean, with less wear than another GP I previously checked out with similar mileage. Had it checked out at local MINI dealer while it was in for a recall (!) that hadn't been done for the passenger seat occupancy mat. They gave it a clean bill, noting only a few minor leaks that I'll need to address in the future (oil pan gasket, power steering hoses and upper motor mount) and I'm probably going to need to do the brake pads soon (appropriate for mileage). Love driving it, feel like I got it for a fair price, and looking forward to many grin-inducing miles with it!

Now that you have the GP, you should bring it out to the track to see what it can do. PCA, Apex and Eagles Canyon have several track events every year and encourage people to bring out their cars to experience HPDE's.
