2013 JCW problems.............

What are the issues/problems that have been encountered by JCW owners with the N18 engine and the overall drivetrain?

Is it true they have an oil leak problem coming from the rear main seal at about 12K?

I would like to read comments about 2013+ JCW owners.

No real issues for the N18 JCW/GP's. Many of us run 50% more boost than stock and redline them everyday. Nothing is 100%, but the N18's have had a high successes rate, over the N14 motors.

Haven't heard about rear main seal leak. You have any links ? The only leak that seamed prominent was the oil pressure solenoid wicking issue.

5k on my car. Daily driver. No hard part drivetrain issue.

I did have check eng lights for 3 bad sensors. All taken care of.

At 5K? What were the issues for three sensors to be replaced?

Mine is not a daily driver, so only 8500 miles. No oil loss at all. Also, engine temps are cooler. Coolant temps high 180s.

I would have to check my paper work again but I did have a oil leak coming from that area, can't remember if it was the rear main seal or not. Was around that mileage as well... I would have to say that when I owned my 07' every time I would red line it, It felt as if the motor was going to explode... haha but my JCW feels so solid. love it.

Nice to see how things going with yours. I remember we bought in same time.

So, if I understand, you already had the car to the dealer three times to fix some problems. Mine is now less than 3.5K and it seems I am lucky with no sensor problems yet.

The engine always run very hot {and smells) but since the last few months, I drive the engine to the red line with the sport button on most of the time. It is ironic but the MPG has significantly increased to 27/32 but we are also in winter here.

I will wait the July first service schedule for the cosmetic issues.

Got mine April 2014, only about 5k miles. No engine lights. 25mpg in town. Runs like a bat out of hell compared to my 2007 MCS (which the only problem was HPFP).

You are right. They are nice rides.

You should have ordered a 6 sp for enjoyment because when you want to extract power to the redline with the sport button on in low gears, it is noisy and screaming. I believe it is what the Mini owners like overall.

Reliability to drive it hard? Well, I don't know and I will see what will happen. I just got 3.5K today.

I picked up my JCW with 14 miles on it and have over 32,000 miles on it now and have had no leaks whatsoever. Drove it hard from the get go.
