JCW 2010 Clubman S JCW?
2010 Clubman S JCW?
New Mini owner and new to this forum.
I just purchased a 2010 Clubman S and was told it has the JCW tuning package installed. How do I verify this? It does have the JCW logo engraved in the tail pipes as well as a certificate from JCW in the glovebox. Other than that how do I know it is legit and what is installed on it to make it a JCW?
I purchased from a local Mini dealer here in North Scottsdale. The previous owner is actually the salesperson I bought it from. Lease return with 41k miles on it. Salesperson told me it had the JCW performance package and that the kit made it a 208hp vehicle.
On another note....four days after purchase the check engine light came on. Immediately took it back to dealer. Six hours later they called me and said that Mini had agreed to replace the entire engine under warranty. I am not mechanical and cannot remember exactly what the service manager told me but it had something to do with the pistons and metal shavings in the block....
Wife if freaking out that I bought a POS. But the way look at it I am getting a new engine for free with only 30 days left on factory warranty. I do have the certified pre owned to fall back on for the next two years.
Sorry for the long post......Thoughts?

Sounds like a dealer installed jcw kit. New mufflers. New air box. Software update. And stickers. I'd be happy with a new crate engine, just make sure they reinstall the software for the extra horsepower.
Enjoy the drive. Motor one

Not sure about 2010's; with 2012's, like mine, the USA MCS was rated at 181hp, the JCW tuning kit added 16hp, so 197 total. Just the tuning kit doesn't get you all the way to the 208-hp of the factory JCW engine. At least it didn't with my 2012.
Then: Geez! Check engine code on a used car, then a call that "we're replacing the engine". Wow. I'd be pleased that they're making it good; as already said, be sure to have them confirm the JCW tune is still in place (I'm thinking it's probably that the engine short block assembly replacement wouldn't affect the engine computer "tune" that includes the extra JCW tune on your car, but I'd ask.)
Lotsa threads here on the JCW tuning kit, pros/cons. Pricey, but I was so pleased when putting it on my 2012: runs strong, factory warranty, and still delivers 36-37mpg on my usual commute (and I've coaxed 40.x from it during a hypermiling week).
