Hard Decision making, R53 GP or build up my S

HI guys,

So i have quite a big question here as to what to do. I have owned an R53 "JCW" for quite some time now. The car has 175000km so over 100 000 miles. I have spent a lot of money on the car and only recently its been confirmed it isnt a proper jcw, i dont have the pulley reduction, the injectors or the map etc. The only thing i have is the exhaust. I do love the car but because of its age its needing a lot of work such as, engine mounts, there is an oil leak, a power steering leak, suspension knock and all of this is really expensive to replace as you guys know and then i still wont have a jcw. The guy who works on my car at BMW has recently bought a gp with about 70 000km and he asked me if i would consider swapping cars with a cash difference of course.

Obviously before considering i would want to test drive and have the car looked at extensively before moving on but is it worth it? Willl i not just be moving onto a new car with new problems? I have had an unbelievable amount of problems with my S recently, its broken down a few times, my asc light causes problems, my eml will come on, had the head replaced etc and things still seem to go wrong with it.

I really dont know what i should do, im not saying i want the gp so i dont have to maintain it, just the fact is has lower mileage, is faster and well, it will be a collectors car in the future is more appealing than my current problem car.

thanks

Good luck with whatever you decide , but I would get the GP if the price was right. Post up some pics if you do.

It comes down to money. It sounds like you have $1000s of repairs coming at you to fix leaks and bushings and since your car has high miles it is not worth much of anything.
The GP is not for everyone, harsh ride, loud, no rear seat; but has the highest performance. Don't count on it going up in value.
So it comes down to price.
You should also consider a regular JCW, they aren't that expensive now. I saw a 2008 JCW cabrio for $17k in the GTA on Autotrader.ca just yesterday. Still it is a 6 year old car and will likely need a few things.
Decisions, decisions....

Raw vs refined. I prefer the GP. If I were to go with a new f56 I would hold out for the JCW version myself. I think it has the greatest potential of all the f56's.

Yeah i understand that. Look the main thing here is i want a proper performance car that i will enjoy and obviously not too much for my age (im 19 had my s since i was 17). I have no problem spending money here and there on maintaining the car the problem is that my s isnt a jcw, it doesnt perform well and doesnt seem worth any of the money.

I just drove the GP, very very different like you say. But i have no problem with the ride or sound, absolutely love it, its actually a lot softer than my s as thats lowered by 40mm. The GP has 98000km actually, the steering felt i dont know a bit looser, not as tight as my s and does the GP have torque steer? seemed to feel like there was a bit.

In regards to the money like i said, i have no problem spending if it is worth it and so far the GP seems worth it power and handling is great, will probably get the car for a weekend and then make start serious thinking. Just does anyone know what i should be looking for going wrong? Anything major? Naturally i will have the car checked out by BMW, service history etc
