JCW side skirts 90 lbs?!

I was pricing them on outmotoring.com and they list the set as 90 pounds. Has anyone who has taken these on or off actually know if they weight 45 pounds a side? I can't imagine a 45 pound side skirt. It makes me laugh to think it may be true. If that's the case I will never put them on my car.

I had my aero kit installed after I purchased my used R56. Dealer showed me the box and parts before they went off to paint. I remember him picking up one of the side skirts to show me. He did it with one hand and no effort. I find it hard to believe that was 45 lbs. Sorry I don't have anything more concrete than that.

The box in came in on the other hand was massive - tons of foam and cardboard packing material. It wouldn't surprise me if the box weighed a good amount just from a shipping standpoint.

That's just completely bogus. I could believe 9.0 lbs, but 90? No way.

That's got to be a typo. Maybe they are selling you side skirts from a jeep?

Shipping large (oversize) boxes usually results in "volumetric weight" rather than "real weight". i.e. the shipping co charges a lot more that the real weight, as the larger boxes offset what they could ship with many smaller boxes that make up the same volume (and weighs a lot more). It's standard practice.

I suspect the shipping boxes are probably oversize and shipping at the "volumetric" rate. They really won't be 90lbs, but the vendor has calculated that to ship these is equivalent to shipping a 90lb item.

Hope that helps

I can confirm this is true 100%. I used to work shipping at a warehouse and they (UPS/FEDEX/USPS) charge based on "dimensional weight" first, then actual weight (if it ends up heavier than estimated). Because the box is so big you are charged as if it weighs 90lbs...

I installed side skirts. They are ridiculously light and flimsy. I was really surprise how flimsy the plastic is, but I guess this is standard for body trim now. In short, the side skirts are not even close to 90 lbs. the boxes these things are shipped in are huge.
