Another cheap mod

[IMG][/IMG]

Here in the U.S. the front license plate location falls about 3 " below the front bumper, thus blocking that much of the lower radiator. To correct this just turn the front license plate holder upside down, and match drill the widest 2 holes to the bumper. Some trimming of the radius that fits against the bumper would also be required. The pic shows my 2013 JCW and my wife's 2011 Clubman S after the mod. I do know that in July driving through the desert with the outside air temp over 113 F near Mesquite NV I never saw the temp over 92 deg C on my JCW temp gauge. I never liked the lower RH license plate location, as it just doesn't look balanced, so I did it this way!

IMO, the best solution is mounting the plate to the tow hook. Either by welding or using a mount from craven or grimmspeed. No holes in the bumper is better in every way.

Welding?? Really? Is the tow hook mount not a hole in the bumper? Holes in the bumper won't be found till the next owner anyway. Airflow to the intercooler and radiator trumps all. I realize there are no deserts in WI!

You didn't offend. Just having a little fun with you. I would love to not run a front license plate, but the law says I have to here in Cali. The fine is $334. Ran my 2013 JCW Hardtop through the desert this July with air temps up to 113 F, and engine water temp was 90 to 95C depending on the terrain. Engines need all the air they can get here!

BTW I'm from Iowa originally and thought I knew what hot was until I moved here after high school!!

Don't know where you live Rayzmini, but in my town in Cali the officers will cruise a parking lot looking for front plates. My friend hadn't had a front plate on her car for 11 years and was fined $334 when her car was parked. They scratched a ticket and put it on her windshield at the gym.

Thanks for your service as a peace officer. You guys do a great job!!

In Cali, you can't get ticketed for no front plate in a private parking lot, you have to be on a public road.
Secondly, it's a fix it ticket, go to the CHP, get signed off, then pay a $25 administrative fee.

I know, I don't have a front plate on my other car.
