Coupe JCW vs Cooper S JCW tires

So my Cooper S JCW came with Dunlops and the Coupe JCW has Bridgestones.

I thought her tires sounded like a truck (loud), then I noticed the different brand tires on each.

My Dunlops not so much as far as loud goes.

What a difference.

Dunlops seem a little softer as well.

Not digging the Bridgestones.

Ditch the runflats for some real summer performance tires and you will wonder why you kept the RF's as long as you did. Cheaper, better riding, better handling, more choices. I suggest Hankook Ventus V12's in 215/45/17, Tirerack's currently got them for $101 a piece with an $80 a set rebate.

Be really carefull around pot holes on those Dunlops. They are softer than the continentals also but they split really easily. My car went through 2 of them on the dealer showroom floor before the car was sold to us and afterward my wife drove it for about a month before wiping out the other two. We switched to non run flats after that and had no further problem and you guys all have seen our Mayor in action by now. You know they didn't fix the roads in LA! Non run flats are lighter and stay on the road better making your suspension not work as hard, and seeing as you get 4 for the price of 1 run flat it is a no brainer. What do you do if you get a flat? Carry a bicycle pump and a plug kit. That costs a grand total of $16.00 at harbor freight and weights practically nothing. Word to the wise, even if you keep your runflats get a bicycle pump and a plug kit. If you fix it right away they will last. If you drive into a tire shop with a "flat" run flat guess what you get to buy. They wont repair them they only replace because they have no idea how long you have been driving that way.

The Hankook's are what I put on my JCW last year. My only complaint is that they had great traction last year, but this year seems a bit lacking. They still look good, and seem to handle nicely, but in straight line acceleration in second gear, unless my Lil Guy has gained horsepower, wheel spin is very noticeable. Also, the 215 size almost eliminates the Mini built in speedometer error. All in all, well worth the money.

Like the way you think. I have a set of PSS's (215/45/17) waiting to go on when my JCW arrives. I can't handle those runflats.

what do you guys do with the RFs if you straight up change them to non-run flats from the get go? It seems like a waste of money if you're just ditching perfectly good tires right from the beginning!

I've had PSS's on my Clubman now for over 8k miles. The grip is amazing and ride quality is excellent. I live in the desert so they are great tires in the dry. Probably not the best in the wet. Looking at the treads under normal driving, I don't think these are going to last the warranty period though. The wear even but I think the might be wearing more than normal. I am going into Costco (where I had them mounted) to see what they think. I am sure I have another year though.

I would definitely buy them again though. They are grippy as all hell.

When I replaced my RF with Yokohamas at Discount Tire, they gave me a credit for the RFs. I don't even remember the exact amount but it was way more than I had even expected. It saved me the hassle of trying to sell them on my own which I didn't have much time for and probably would have ended up just storing them.

The RFs I pulled off my JCW sold for enough that it paid for my Pilot Super Sports mounted and balanced plus dinner.

WOW! are we talking about brand new RF tires, though?

In other words, a 10k mile used one probably won't fetch anywhere near the cost of covering 4 PSS tires, right? And would Discount Tires buy back used tires?

PSS are going to wear faster then most tires. Treadwear is rated at 300 but as a comparison Hankook V12's are only rated at 280

I recently replaced my Challenge Spoke wheels and the Dunlop run-flats with OZ Alleggerita wheels and Michelin PSS (215). The difference in ride and handling is amazing. The OZ rims are over 9 pounds lighter each, and the PSS tires are great.

I'm thinking of going with the non run flat version of the continentals that came with the JCW next time.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....wtpackage=true

Or just something with grooves instead of a chevron pattern. It is just getting too loud. The one thing I could do with my run flats that I cannot do with my Federal 595 non runflats is brake really deep into a corner. Or I should put it, I could brake much later, much harder, with way less drama. The non runflats push the front end really easily. On the other hand these stay planed in bumpy corners where the runflats would let go with less warning. I am hoping the non runflat version of the continental will be the best of both worlds.

How is the treadwaer on those Michelin SSP's? I saw a scary photo on line but maybe someone just had a suspension failure or something. After you rotate do you notice increased noise? I am worried the blocky pattern would suffer the same fate as the 595's.

I think you could still sell them for $400ish or so, especially for people doing lease turn-ins. I cannot answer the Discount Tire question, however.
