JCW R53 MCS...JCW exhaust vs aftermarket?
R53 MCS...JCW exhaust vs aftermarket?
I've got a factory 2003 JCW MCS with the factory JCW exhaust. It's actually pretty quiet...not much louder than the standard MCS exhaust I've heard.
How to the JCW exhaust on those cars compare to other aftermarket exhaust options? The the aftermarket exhaust add any more power than a JCW system would? I would like a little more power....but I'm not sure if going to an aftermarket setup like a Magnaflow would add more power...or just more noise.
Any info would be great! Thanks!

I do like the Milltek exhaust, but you might want to consider another option. Add an RMW header to your JCW exhaust! The benefit is that it's quiet at cruise, no drone, has a nice bark at half throttle and a nice wail at full throttle. Also, it will definitely add some power, something which the other cat-backs really don't do over the JCW. Price isn't much higher than a good cat-back either.
I have the RMW header with modified JCW exhaust (a magnaflow up front, keeping everything 2.5 until just before the split for the twin cans, where it goes down to 2.25)--it's a great combo. It adds a little noise when you stomp on it, but it's quiet when you want it to be, and like Davis said, no drone (which is worse than a loud exhaust).
I tried the header with a straight pipe, but it was too loud--with a 2.5 inch header, you're going to be loud without twin cans, unless you're willing to fork over big bucks.
My first choice would be the Milltek, simply because it's 2.5 inches from head to toe. But if you already have the JCW, those twin cans are nice, and it's more of a lateral move than an anything else, going from the JCW exhaust to something else. Unless you're doing some other mods, you already have a damned good exhaust--you'd be better off spending your money elsewhere, especially if you're after a bump in performance. Just my 2 cents.

I have a Mynes V2 header and have the stock cat. fabricated to use with it. Sound during regular driving is not bad at all, when I put my foot in it she comes alive though. I know that if the rezonator is removed it would be alot more aggresive sounding but have not made my mind up on it. Is there a way to cut the rezonator out and have a straight pipe fabricated that can be removed at will and replaced with the rezonator ?
I loved my Supersprint exhaust. I posted a video of it on You Tube. I think it's the only video of that. Do a search for R53 Supersprint exhaust and you should find it.

I love the invidia catback...thats the route I'm going to be going once I get enough money saved up. I had an Invidia N1 on my previous car (05 Civic Si) and it didn't even "sound like a Civic." No rasp, no drone, deep, smooth, and loud when I wanted it to be. I'm hoping I'll be just as satisfied with the Invidia cat back on my R53.
