I hit 160 in a loaner S model. I am fairly confident I could do a bit more in my JCW.

The First day I purchased my 06 MCS JCW I did a 60-130 pull...it got up there quick I loved it...its not the fastest car I have ever driven but definitely the most rewarding #1 funnest car to drive 10/10 now to win the lottery and do all kinds of performance mods lol

I dont understand why its so hard to believe...I saw a pic just a few hours ago of a guy doing 155~ on the autobahn. Now, I will say that It MAY have been 150, ill have to ask my buddy who was with me, but I was almost sure it was 160. Just yesterday I hit 140 in my JCW and had plenty of room to go.

It was more than stock. Please tell me you are doing this safely on the track and not on the roads.

Well, I cant tell you what was in the loaner model, I dont know. But my JCW is a stock JCW.

This was on a highway at about 3AM with no one in sight. Not a danger to anyone but myself and my more than willing friend =)

Do you live in a vacuum? No family? My condolences to your family, its just a matter of time with you.

Going that fast at 3am is probably more dangerous than 3pm due to all of the animals that come out at night. Then again, the traffic at 3pm would probably keep you from acting foolishly on public roads.

Not that this thread will likely be open for much longer any way, but unless you are talking kilometers, the cars are governed at 141 for the S and 147 for the JCW. And I doubt your loaner was tuned . Nice try though.

EDIT: Well not governed, but drag limited.

They are governed at these speeds you mentioned. My S gets to 141 and just sits there with a little more too go. It's not pulling like a freight train at that speed, but it sure is moving like a bullet (Japanese bullet train, lol).

Also, IBTL with regards to illegal speeds on public roads, and opening saying so. Nobody reads forum rules anymore do they...

Again, as I said, I don't know the S's story. All I know is that was a trade in that they let me use for a week. If you guys are so insistent, I will try to get a video of my JCW up. I am dubious of the "governor" theory.

As to the roads, you're making a grand assumption on where I live.

I hit 145 on the Autobahn in an unrestricted section with my 06 (tuned with no governor) with nothing more it could do.

I wouldn't be dubious about it at all as it does exist and it is listed on MINIs site. They are controlled, it is no theory.

As for getting a video up, I certainly hope that you plan to do this on a track and not on the street here in the USA where it is illegal and dangerous to do so.

Personally I don't drive terribly fast, because I can't, but I always enjoy these threads before they are shut down. You have an entire board of enthusiasts who spend thousands of dollars on aftermarket go-fast parts, FMICs, dyno time and tunes, etc, and then the minute someone admits to speeding on the street, which I wager 90% of you are doing, they are shamed for it.

Yes, 160mph is monumentally stupid (if not impossible...) to do on the road, but it still smells of hypocrisy to call someone out for speeding.

I admit to bringing the little R50 up to 165KMH on one occasion, punching it to pass before a lane ended on a Northern highway with visibility to the ends of the earth. The law here is 40kmh over and there are severe penalties, so I try not to exceed that. That brings a top highway speed of about 120kmh, which is hardly dangerous given the conditions and road design. I get my kicks on back roads.

An MCS in stock form isn't capable on going 160 (although it can get close)

Without taller tires or an increased redline you canot exceed 158. The same will be true of a JCW.

This excluding the issues of power or speed limiters. The car is simply not geared to go any faster.

::In before the lock::

The mini is drag limited, not governed, as mentioned above. Gearing can't get you to 160, unless you are tuned with a raised redline (mine is at 7k). But, you'd be hard pressed to get there unless you have a tailwind and you're going downhill.

I get up to 130 without issue, then wind resistance really starts kicking in, and from 130-140 is a battle. I've seen 142 on the speedo, but GPS says 138, which is likely the accurate number as the speedo is just about 4mph off, which makes sense here.

Of course I speed from time to time but not to the point of stupidity. 5 or 10 over the speed limit is not as big of a deal as doing 100+ down a road that, in America, is nowhere near designed to handle that speed.

.
Unless BMW has changed their stance, their vehicles are governed in the ECU. My 06 was and I suspect it is on yours as well. Two different runs on an autobahn (one before tune and one after) showed very different results.

Ummm, I would have to go look at the road. It may actually have been downhill, although no idea about the wind. I know the section where I was, and my gut tells me its downhill, not sure the grade.

Also, I said its possible it could have been 150, but I know for a fact I hit 130~ in my JCW with PLENTY of room to go just a few days ago. I guess I should actually get some data before I make a claim on the JCW.
