The ECU isn't fully cracked yet...

They can be tuned somewhat, but the ECU must come out of the car and it has to be done the old school way....not the most effective thing to do when you are trying to tune a car with something like a bigger turbo on it.

350HP on an R53 takes a lot of money to do though. Power is much easier to obtain on the R56 just the amount of power you can make is more limited currently.
is that like SOHC VTEC vs DOHC VTEC on a honda? if so a DOHC VTEC honda can have the crap tuned out of it. however it did take years to be able to tune from when they first came out.

So our cars arent like any JDM car I can think of.

our cars are DOHC - R56s. Pre-10 had VVT i want to say on the intake side. And the new ones have it on both sides.

Obviously currently you cant tune them at all.

Euro cars are quite different from their JDM rivals.

your turbo options are:
Alta turbo - WAY OVERPRICED
JCW Turbo - Stock on a JCW or an overpriced swap on an MCS.
Hybrid K04 - $600 to have done and makes more power than all the turbos listed above.

Jan@RMW is the BEST TUNER for MINIs.

There is discussion of a future standalone for the R56 but not currently.

You dont need a built motor at all.. there really is no point to it with the current parts on the market.

You cant run garret turbos, you cant run EFR turbos, etc.. options are limited.
and why cant you run garret turbos?

Cause we have an electronic DV and electronic wastegate control and it is opposite to the style of garrets.

Like i said you are limited to BorgWarner K series turbos.

You could put on a GT28.. but you wont be able to tune it or get it to run right.

and cant that all be changed?

since its an electronic wastegate can you use an electronic boost controller like the HKS EVC or Blitz SBC?

no you cant.. its not that simple. there is a huge pdf of a guy who tried to go with garret. go look up some of my old threads about it as well.

It currently CANNOT be done.

HKS **** doesnt work on our cars, we are EURO.. so all your blitz, hks, etc isnt going to work our ecus are for more advanced.

Just wait till the R56 standalone comes out, info is on motoringunderground.

LOL your killin me.

is this the turbos 101-103 thread in the MCS drivetrain section?

most of the turbo electronics work on all cars. some are very specific to make and model but most are not. i do however understand and am slowly learning that the Mini is unique. all part of my learning curve.

again thanks so much for your input. i really appreciate it.

this for example is an amazing tool that work directly on the MCS

here is an example.
