Another JCM resonator delete question.....
Another JCM resonator delete question.....
I’ve searched the forums on info and opinions on doing the resonator delete on the factory JCW exhaust….and I think I’m going to give it a try. The car is so quiet now, I can barely hear it when it’s running. I have to watch the tach when I take off from a light or I just about kill it…..it’s so hard to hear the motor. It sure would be nice to at least hear it a little…..especially since the JCW exhaust is supposed to be a “performance” exhaust. From what I have read…some people like the extra crackling and popping you get from doing the resonator delete…some don’t. I guess I will just have to do it and see what it sounds like.
The main question I have, and the one that I haven’t been able to find much info on is this: Does removing the resonator increase the performance of the car at all? Any better throttle response? Any extra torque or HP? Or is it simply just going to make the exhaust louder?
I would think that with increased noise comes increased flow…and increased flow means more power. Does that hold true in this instance?
Thanks!!

I went from a one ball mod to this set up sorta by chance when I scored a used rear section of a JCW exhaust. I had no choice but to use the center pipe of the original R53 exhaust at the time.
When I purchased a brand new JCW system, I ran with the center resonator set up and it sounded like an "electric car"......as one of my MINI buddies pointed out...So it didn't last long like that.
Yes, removing the resonator provided more mid and top end speed/power. Much smoother and is more aggressive throttle resonse in 6th and a bit more eager to run higher speeds.
And I personally don't mind hearing the additonal snap/crackle and pop.....

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear that it does something besides just add noise. If it just made it louder, I'm not sure I would really mess with it....but the fact that it may gain even a little power....makes it sound a little more worthwhile
Good luck. I don't think you will be disappointed. Check out my current thread about JCW Resonator Delete. WOW! Our superstar Dez has posted some videos on the thread just today.
As far as performance, I didn't delete until I got to 1,200 miles. I am sure it didn't decrease performance. And if is the same --the extra noise more than makes up for it. And, hey, the car loses around 12-15 pounds. Nick

Well, just got out of the muffler shop. It made the exhaust sound slightly deeper, and maybe just a touch louder.....but not as loud as I thought it was going to be. I can hear it pop and burble ever now and then...but other than that it kind of sounds just like it did before. Overall I'm happy though...it only cost $40, so I'm not out much.
