Considering JCW Tune on 2010 Camden S

Picked up my car yesterday from a service appointment and started looking through the JCW brochure and talking to the tech. The JCW sounds really interesting to get a little more HP and rumble out of the S. Price seems a bit out of range for what it offers though, for those out there with it. Do you think its worth it and what did you end up paying out the door?

I have a Stage 1 kit on my MCS and have had so for 60,000 miles. Personally I think the performance is good, yes there is better but at the cost of your warranty. As for the price fitted I got mine at an introductory rate at the release of it in australia and therefore paid only $1500 AUD (from memory), but I still think the $4500 (I think that is what it is worth here) would still be worth it considering it has full factory warranty coverage.

At that price I would say go for it, as long as you will be happy with the power level it gives. If you want more than that then go aftermarket.

For a bit more power and sound but still retaining warranty there are no other options. The warranty is the deciding factor in my opinion.

Still seems expensive, I think they quote another $1k for labor. Can it be that labor intensive?

For the JCW suspension, yes, but not for the "Stage 1" Tuning Kit. I just got quoted $2300 out the door from both Mini of Plano and Mini of Dallas. The official MINI installation guidelines say 4 hours of labor for Tuning Kit install.

Definite;y a high labor price. I am looking into it as well and was quoted $1500 for the kit + labor of 4~5 hours.

Look at it this way

aftermarket...
$280 CAI
$800-1000 exhaust
800 Tune Alta or RMW
= $2000+

JCW TUNE
CAI included
Exhaust included
Tune Included
around $2000 maybe a little more
Warranty in Tact

Either way you go, you are most likely going to pay around the same amount. BUT if you are concerned about your warranty, obviously JCW would be the route. Other tunes will give more power, but could sacrifice warranty claims.

I like what I got from the JCW, when I get out of warranty and still crave some more power...I'll get another tune.

I say skip the intake and exhaust since they are mostly noise.
And only go for aftermarket tune.

a stage 1 AP tune on a stock S will put down around the same power as a JCW stage 1 kit but the JCW gets you a nice sound too, warranty and bragging rights. obviously a S with a exhaust, intake and AP/RMW tune will put down alot more power than a stage 1 JCW but will prob cost more.

I'd like to know where you guys are going to get quoted these low prices. I'm in Indiana and would be willing to drive 1000 miles just to get a decent price. My dealership wants $2585 (before tax) for the tuning kit and installation. $150 an hour installation (4 and a half hours). I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. They then proceeded to tell me that it's non negotiable. ...I wish I hadn't bought my new car from them. I got passed around like a village ***** when I walked in there and I ended up buying a $36k Mini Cooper at MSRP with cash and I'm still being treated like I'm bothering them.

Everything is negotiable sir. Your dealer sounds like a bunch of tools. Why not email around and see who can offer you a better price then just drive your car there and get it done.

I sent an e-mail out yesterday to about eleven different dealerships. Still waiting for a response. Morristown quoted me $1900 for just the kit on the phone.

Got mine for 1708.00. I didn't have them install the exhaust and they charged me 150.00 for air box and ecu flash

That's a great idea. ...and you still get the warranty?

See, I'm interested in buying the kit from another dealer and seeing if my dealer that's closest to me could do what you're describing above.

If you email us your VIN we'll price you a JCW kit, should be able to beat the silly dealer pricing.
And yes if you get it, install the muffler and intake yourself and only pay them for the software download.

Yes, I still maintain my MINI warranty because it is a REAL JCW kit with all paperwork, badges and parts. So, my VIN is registered with MINI as a JCW Stage 1 car. MINI did the flash and it's on record with them. I chose to do a different exhaust and sold th JCW S1 exhaust here on NAM so I told them not to install it.

Plent of threads on this, you can find my post on it on this same forum... Bottom line do it if you can get a price you can afford/swallow and if budget is paramount and warranty isn't then yeah go aftermarket, but for me it was about it being from MINI, being warranty and being the perfect balance of performance, sound and fit.
And if you look up my post, I got a killer price...

Ok, so in regards to the ecu flash, etc. I have the DOS CAI already. So I could just have the JCW exhaust and an ECU flash and be considered a Stage 1 JCW tune? and if this is the case what type of whp could I expect?
