JCW JCW - how do you know if it's a truce JCW or just the aero package

JCW - how do you know if it's a truce JCW or just the aero package

Let start off by saying I'm a newbie ... I just picked up a used 2007 Cooper S from a dealer in FL. The ad in auto trader just said it was a Cooper S, but it has the JCW aero package and since I bought it based on the pics I don't know exactly if it's a true JCW or not and the dealer is not a Cooper dealer and I doubt they would know either. I thought I would make a fool of myself here, opposed to going to a dealer and asking them.

Besides the aero package, how else would I know if it's a true JCW's Mini? The engine is louder then expected and the suspension is pretty tight, not very forgiving. With so many configurations available I don't know. I looked under hood, but still can't tell, I didn't see any identifying markers or I just missed them. Do they throw a JCW badge on there or maybe there's something on the VIN number?

Thanks

Mini did not make a factory JCW in 2007. But it may have a JCW tuning kit on it, installed by a mini dealer. Then it would have a different exhaust, larger intake, badges under hood, on left rear trunk and on front grille. That is called a MCS JCW stage 1. It is a real JCW, but not a factory car, that is what I have. Aero kit is not standard on any mini's. Do a search here there is plenty of topics on it. Enjoy your car.

Sounds like it's an MCS with the aero kit, esp if there is no JCW badging under the hood to indicate the tuning package.

But, as someone said already, there was no factory JCW in 2007. But the JCW aero kit even in the 08+ Mini's really doesnt' indicate a JCW at all cause there are tons of MCS's with the JCW aero kit, and there are alot of factory JCWs without the aero kit. Suspension doenst' mean anthing either cause the Justa, MCS and JCWs all came with the same suspensions too.

Hi,

The easiest way to do this is to put the last 7 digits of the vin into the serial number option of realoem

http://realoem.com/bmw/select.do

This gives you the specs of the car as it was built by BMW. Obvious a factory JCW will show as a JCW, whereas a cooper S that had the kit fitted will show as a cooper S
