FWIW, I have a JCW turbo on my Cooper S and it is making more power than a tuned JCW. Works flawlessly too....considering the price difference between a JCW and S is about 7k....doing this for ~2k is quite the steal.
Agreed, the problem I am having, the dealer wants me to buy a new JCW in 2 weeks when they are in, but I have a $29k 08 MCS with ALL the bells and whistles. I can honestly tell you, having had a JCW over night not too long ago for a loaner, the JCW car is REALLY powerful. I mean it is sick. That being said, buy an alta accessport, get the JCW turbo upgrade (BTW Alta will offer this very soon) and a turbo back exhaust and you are out $2300-$2500, your car will be as fast as, if not faster then a JCW and you will not have to spend $35k on a new car. I am seeing JCW cars, 2009's, on here, nicely equipped for $22-24k. I couldn't bring myself to buy a new one.

FWIW, I had an Alta accessport and my car ran like a raped date. My buddy got in my car and said he never felt a MINI that fast, not even a JCW car and my car doesn't even have an intake on it.........YET!

If you get a JCW and put the Alta accessport or RMW Tune, it will be faster than an S with all the options above.
The JCW is a beast next to an S.

I'm already anxiously awaiting the '11 Accessport tune for the JCW.

Wrong.....

Not an S with a JCW turbo on it, which I believe he was talking about.

Not everyone here wants to mod their cars. I like the whole "from the factory, fully warrantied" thing and love my '09 JCW. Love it so much that I'm getting another one next week.

Factory JCW with Alta Tune or RMW Tune is faster than a Cooper S with JCW Turbo, Alta or RMW Tune and Alta Exhaust.

Stock Factory JCW has over 50 HP more than a Cooper S from the start. Has JCW exhaust, stronger clutch, stronger internals and then you add the Alta or RMW Tune. Forget about it.

So NO, you are wrong!

If you want a high performance Mini. There is no question, just buy the Factory JCW.

oh dear, your math calculation is somewhat out! BMW quote the Cooper S at 175hp and the JCW at 208hp erm that seems to be just an increase of 33hp!

And as for stronger engine internals, how many more times do I have to say this, the JCW has only a different piston CR ratio 10.0:1 the Cooper S has a piston CR ratio of 10.5:1 the pistons are made by Mahle for both models, as for the rest of the engine internals, there is no difference.

Here are pictures of the car at its current home in Raleigh. I'll take better pictures of the car once it's in my stable.

Sweet ride! What size wheels are you running?

There are people here that have dynod their stock factory JCW and are pushing 200 HP to the wheels. Taking that into consideration the Factory JCW's 208 HP is under rated. If you are pushing 200 HP to the wheels, your HP is more than 208 to the crank.
That's were I got the 50 HP number from.

I also thought that the transmission has stronger internals along with the clutch?

Oh and by the way I am NOT your dear.

phinzup,

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and photos. I dearly love my little 1st gen 2006 JAC (just-a-cooper); but I could really see myself taking alot of pride in a ride like yours!

you will find most of the Cooper S and JCW models tend to show more hp on the dyno, take my factory stock 2009 Clubman Cooper S, with no mods whatsoever, it made 193hp on the dyno, time and time again.

I've got frictionless clear coat (better aerodynamics) and have replaced the air inside my tires with helium (weight-reduction measure).

Trouble now is my JCW Clubman hovers about an inch off of the pavement, I can't seem to get any traction, and it only goes wherever the wind blows...

OK, the R113's in black seem similar to what phinzup has.

193 to the wheels? On a dynojet or mustang dyno? Cause thats probably 20 more HP than most MCS dynos I've seen.

Yes at the wheels, remember here in the UK we have a better grade of petrol, than the limp wristed offerings you guys have to suffer with!

My figures were recorded on neither of your mentioned dyno's and I was and still am running nothing less than 98 RON rating fuel.

Lol....ok then

Putting a JCW turbo on an S yields higher results than you get out of the factory JCW....sorry to break it to you. I've been testing it for over a month.

Assuming its tuned correctly, the higher compression ratio in the S provides higher results.

And I can back ThumperMCS findings, as I did all this last year.

Tell me about it, however all we can do is to try to educate, and those that want to listen to experience, will, and the rest will simply think they know best, spend money they really haven't got, to find out, oh **** it doesn't work, mmm should have listened to those that have done the testing, and knows what works and what doesn't, and find themselves in a position of being $$$ and $$$ out of pocket, with parts that don't really work to the optimum, and nobody else will want the parts either!

But who are we to say!!!
