Update!

They rolled back the software on the "S" and it's not having the hot restart issue anymore.

They're just double checking my Check Engine Light today and will reprogram my Clubman with the older software and the previous version of the JCW tune, tomorrow.

Also... Mini/BMW has a fix for this problem and is currently testing it. We can expect it to take about a month for them to finalize testing and roll out the updated software.

That is great news Xeraux!!

Both the rollback fixing the "S" and the update out in a month.

Now I need to decide if I want a rollback or just wait untill the fix is ready. I will need an oil change by next month so I may just keep my CEL until then and see if the fix is ready.

Keep us posted on your CEL/Idling problem (or hopefully lack there of) after the downgrade!

That is great news Xeraux! How does the older version of the JCW tune feel compared to the newer version?

Again, I'm not noticing a huge difference. I do feel like it is shifting a little more aggressively.

The biggest difference is, of course, the hot restart. When you restart the car, now, it doesn't even sputter or hesitate. Start up is smooth as it always was.

Do you think you will need to fight with the dealer every time they "update" the ecu?

It will be interesting to see if your fuel mileage changes any too Xeraux. Glad to hear that they were able to do that for you!

Nah. It won't be a fight. I'll just ask them not to.

How often do they update the ECU? Just wandering, I have been taking mine to the dealer for over a year for various services and fixes and never had them update it until I dropped the JCW tuning kit on.

Xeraux, when the patched update comes out that will supsedly fix the issue, are you going to get it or just stay with what you have?

I think I'm going to try to stay with what I have unless I don't have a choice. The car's running great.

How much you wanna bet the hot restart problem and the high pressure fuel pump issue are related?

I'd be willing to wager that the hot restart problem was an attempt at fixing the high pressure fuel pump issues.

An update on the gas mileage...

I got 34.+mpg on the highway on a trip to Hotlanta and back this weekend.

If I remember correctly, I used to get in the 36-ish mpg range before the JCW Stage 1 kit (I know, it's not enough to get me in the "real" JCW club. ). So, about a 2 mpg drop in gas mileage seems a little more in line with other "non-real" JCW owner's experience.

I'm curious as to what my around town fuel economy's going to look like.

Hey man. Nope. I was going to wait about a month and see if they have the update tested and ready to install. If not, I will probably go ahead and get them to downgrade. And oddly enough, I have only had the hot restart problem once since they cleaned the injectors the last go around. I also have only had the CEL a few days at a time then 4-5 day gaps between. Before it was constant.

On a side note, I am going to take it to my first Autocross event here Saturday. I can't wait!!

I'm almost entirely around the city, except 3 minute stretch in the hwy. I went from 28.7 to 27.9 mpg

Gas mileage update.

Around town I'm getting around 29-ish to 30-ish mpg. Highway is a pretty consistent 34.x mpg.

Don't know if it's related to the software or not, but it's closer to what I was expecting.

My wife's 2-day old MCS (6/2010 build date) appears to be exhibiting this problem. I was a bit paranoid that it was the infamous HPFP but there do not appear to be any other issues with power or hesitation and it starts fine on cold start. The only issue appears to be trouble restarting when the engine is warmed up. It seems to work fine on the second try.

We're going on vacation for two weeks in a few days so we can easily drop it off at the dealer while we are gone so they can check it out. If it is the software (and based on the info here it sure sounds like it) I'm not sure whether I feel more comfortable waiting for the new update or having them roll back to the original version. Any opinions?
