Does a Jan or other tune adjust the shift points on the trans and bump up the throttle response, as the JCW tune does?

I believe Mark said the RMW tune does.

Correct, Jan's tune will do this.

YES!!.....I Mean.......

I hate you have it but glad that someone else is getting the CEL. I was begining to think maybe there was something wrong with my car in addition to the idle problem.

The good thing about this is that it looks like it follows a predictable pattern. It's easier to diagnose and fix when they can see what leads to another.

It sucks for us, the guinea pigs, but it'll be fixed for everyone else.

I left a message with Roadshow this morning that I want the software off the car or I want an older version installed.

Uhoh...

It may not be related to the JCW Stage 1 software.

We have a report of a brand-spanking-new Cooper S with the same problem.

Really. So if that is true it could be a change across the board on all ECU software. We just happened to get updates recently because of the JCW. That would be crazy but should be fixed faster.

Birmingham Mini called me today. They had a regional service person from MINI come down to look at mine. He feels its an injector problem with my CEL codes and yesterday hand cleaned all of the injector and fuel related parts. (I already have a new fuel pump). They have driven it off and on the past few days trying to get either the CEL or idle to occur. They asked my permission to put some miles on it today to see if they could force it and I said sure.

I still feel like its the tune and not my engine but at least I am getting a lot of new parts and cleanings if nothing else!!

My gas mileage has gone to complete crap.

I was in the mid 34-ish mpg range and now the car is getting low 27-ish mpg.

I think the "tune" is feeding it too much gas. That could also by why they thought it was carbon build-up and why it took so long for both of us to get Check Engine Lights. It takes some time for all that to build up. That could also choke it on a restart, as well.

I have heard of a 2 mpg drop with the JCW package, more power=more hard driving, that makes sense...but a drop of 7 mpg! Something is wrong for sure....I get 22-27 around the city and 29-32 on the FWY with my Clubman S AT, depending on how hard I drive....34 mpg? Never seen that ever, of course I am at 4,500 ft elevation as well. The running too rich theory is interesting,as the JCW stage one tune should up the boost pressure a few lbs, but I would expect the fuel mixture to remain the same....the problems reported here have put my Stage One upgrade on hold for now.....

I was getting 28.7 city and now I'm getting 27.9 city (post-Kit). Seems about right. Lots of hills where I am and I'm at sea level so I doubt I'm ever going to see 34+mpg.

Another quick update.

The Cooper S that's having the same problem has the exact same version of the "High Level" software on it as mine does.

Mini may have a much bigger problem on their hands.

The good news about this is if that's the case, you can bet they'll have this fixed quick.

I also got the thumbs-up to roll back the software versions on my car.

Actually....I have the same problem. I thought maybe it was the fact that I am driving the car a lot harder than I used to because its much funner and to hear that exhaust but it still seemed extreme!!

Looks like I'm seeing the same issues. I bought a new 2010 mini coopers S convertible automatic in May. I had the JCW kit installed at around 1400 odm miles. When I got home from the dealer, the car stalled when I tried restarting it after a brief time with the car off. After that I did a google search and saw this forum topic. I took it to the dealer and the dealer said is was a know problem and an ECU fix is not available yet but I could still drive the car. I brought the car home and 2 days later, I now have a CEL light and the car is not having the power it once did. The car is now back at the dealership for analysis. If I learn anything new I will post.

imviper...hate to hear it but not surprised.

After keeping it a week, having a regional MINI service rep tell the dealer that it was definately an old injector bullitin on 07's and applying the cleaning fix they drove it for 3 days a lot and my dealer kept checking the computer for codes. They couldn't get it to bring the CEL back on and hoped it was fixed. I have had it about 3 days driving it a lot and the CEL just came back on. But I don't have the idleing problem again...at least not yet!!

Xeraux do you have the older JCW software installed yet? I am going to demand that whenever I take it back assuming it works for you and there is not fix yet.

It goes in tomorrow morning. They're putting some kind of "black box" on it to record everything that the computer controls on with the car. Fuel mapping, etc... They hope to use the information to upload to Mini/BMW to help them troubleshoot the software.

I have seriously been considering the JCW Stage 1 for my 2010 Clubman S Automatic. I think I am going to put it off for now until I see some better results.

I'm about an hour from my dealer and don't want to be running back and forth with issues.

Good deal. I can't keep driving 2 hours to the dealer. I'm going to hold out till they find something with yours.

Probably not a bad idea, but I don't think it's the kit or the tune. We believe it's the "high level" software on the car. Meaning ANYONE who gets their car's software updated to the latest version will have this problem. If you could get them to install the parts and just put the JCW tune on your car without updating the "high level" software, you'll probably be fine.

Otherwise, I'd wait.

I'm a bit confused. What does "high level software" mean?

When they did your kit, they updated your car's computer with two things, they updated the main or high level software to the most recent release and installed the JCW tune. We believe it's the main or high level software that has the problem, not the JCW tune.

This sounds like it could be it. I had my tune installed last July and didn't have any problems until this May. Right after I had my JCW brakes put in, and I believe they have to reflash the software for the brakes. Maybe they flashed mine to the new software when they did the brakes.

Also, I got my car back today after bringing it in for the CEL again. this time they replaced the mass air flow sensor, and replaced the air intake boot which was deformed and falling off. This is in addition to them replacing the fuel pump and timing chain tensioner the last time. They kept the car over the weekend and drove it 250 miles with no problems, so I hoped it's cleared up. I'm kinda glad this all popped up, cause now I have all those new parts that I wouldn't have otherwise got.

Now if I could only keep my hood scoop from warping...

Oh interesting. So then should we not start to see a bunch of MCSa's with the hot restart stall? Or is it the combination of the update high level software with the JCW tune? I would think it's the combo or else we would have been hearing about a LOT of automatic cars having this problem by now.
