JCW Express wheel cleaning
Express wheel cleaning
I just thought I would share something I discovered. It will keep your wheels clean without a lot of work, time or expense. As long as your wheels have not gotten wet and you simply have dry brake dust, this will work great.
Get a small car duster. I got mine from Harbor Freight as part of a set for only $6.00. For 6.00 you get one standard size (12") and a mini duster (4"). It is triangular shaped and has no exposed plastic or metal surfaces that could scratch. Brake dust comes off in one pass. The shape fits into all the nooks and crannies of factory JCW wheels. I timed myself last night. It takes between 13 seconds and 30 seconds per wheel. When you are done it looks like you washed them. I have had my car for 2 months and have only washed them 2 times. They look like new every day and I am spending maybe 3-4 minutes tops for all 4. On our 05 MCS it is even faster.
If they do get wet and you need to wash them and 4.99 a bottle for wheel cleaner seems a little steep, go to Home Depot. Get a gallon of Baer Driveway Degreaser. You can pour a few ounces in your favorite sprayer and the rest water (we are talking maybe 12:1 to even 20:1). To put it into perspective, the degreaser costs 11.99 or so. Since 1995 I have used 1 and 1/4 gallon. Keep in mind I just found the duster method this year so I was washing every week, 3 cars. Keep in mind, even cut down this far this stuff is strong. Do not let it dry, only do one wheel at a time. I usually spray, count to 10 to let it work then scrub with a soft wheel brush (pep boys standard issue). You will be able to eat off the wheels with very little effort.
