will 16" wheels fit with jcw brakes or will a 205/50/17 fit on current rims as far as clearance goes?

 

I use stock 2006 16" MINI v-spoke wheels (I think they are R84s) on my 2006 JCW for winter use. The brake caliper clearance is close enough that you need to use thin adhesive tire weights to clear the calipers. The thicker, stock tire weights won't work. No problems during the past three year's use. I also use 16" wheels for my summer performance tires. They are Gram Lites 57c wheels, and have TONS of clearance. Bought them from Alex at Tirerack and they are awesome, inexpensive, light weight wheels.

 

Does anyone know if 17" Crown Spoke wheels will fit over JCW brakes? I'm sure I've seen Works cars with these but a local seller of a used set says they don't fit. Anyone know for sure? Might there be more than one casting of the same style wheel?

Hi all. If anyone knows if these will fit my car I'd appreciate a response. The problem is these are 3 hours away - I'd like to know if they fit before I commit to traveling to see/buy them.

I am about 99 % sure they clear the JCW brakes for 1st Gen cars. Not many 16's ( I think only 2-3 OEM 16 inch rims work) and most 17's do. But I am pretty sure this was one set that did. You can always double check with an SA at any MINI dealer. They are always eager to help.

 

Thanks gray raven. I've since found another set for sale only blocks from where I live and the guy is willing to let me try before I buy.
