I'm talking about part throttle shift points. When I go to work, I don't do it with the gas pedal mashed to the floor and its not for fuel economy. I have to ride in miles of heavy traffic every day and don't want my transmission trying to keep the RPM up at 3K because of the kit when it easily runs at ~2K at part throttle.

Thanks,

sd

Now for my question for those that have the JCW Stage 1 kit. Does the car feel like it has a bit more lag after the kit compared to before?
is the stage 1 work covered in the warranty?

As long as it is bought and installed at a Mini dealership, it is covered under the Mini warranty.

To those of you that had the kit shipped. I assume the box is large. Will it fit in a MINI for transport to the dealer for installation? Or did you direct ship it to the dealer?

i saw the box it's very large. it's on a narrow but long wooden pallet. i ordered from the same dealer so it was shipped to the dealer. it's about 5-6ft long and about 2-3ft wide and about 2-3ft tall.

it looked like the box would have fit in the mini but not without some hassle and potential damage.

however, you could easily take the parts out of the box and it would make it a lot easier to fit in the mini.

the warranty is either 2 years or the remainder of the new car warranty - whichever is longer.

it should fit. When I had my kit installed I brought all of the stock parts back with me. The only thing that was short was the program, actually I take that back I have the cd in the glove box.

What are they actually installing for the money? The exhaust, CAI, and anything else? The ECU is not new, rather a reprograming of the existing ECU? I'm just trying to figure out what comes in the kit. Thx

Dont forget the Michael Cooper signed Certificate of Authenticity (the factory cars dont even get that!) as well as a couple JCW badges... And yes the ECU upgrade (on its own CD) is VIN-specific for yr car.

Yes, the bling is the best part. I've twice at stoplights almost let people in other MINIs think Lewis was a real JCW. But they were definately brand new MINI owners and not hip to the badge-placement game that MINI plays so I fessed up.

It is a "real" JCW if it has the badge provided by the kit. There are two flavors of Mini JCW cars right now.... the factory version and the dealer upgraded version ... both flavors of these cars carry the JCW badge provided by Mini and both should be considered "real". JMHO..... YMMV

Yep. Both get the same badges, but where they are placed is different. The factory JCW badges are placed in the lower grill opening on the front left, and on the right side of the back (I think). The kit badges were placed by the dealer on the upper grill opening (right side) on the front, and on the left side of the back. I thought that was an interesting way to differentiate the kit vs the factory. Of course, I still have the "Cooper S" badge on the back. Does the factory maintain any Cooper S badging?

I got the kit when the car was new, so I don't have any reference to guage a performance improvement. I can say I really like the exhaust, and although there is plenty of torque throughout the RPM range, it is really nice as the RPMs increase.

no, because the factory JCWs are JCWs, no MCS designation. Now, our "kit" cars are MCS or MCSa JCWs because they were originally MCS's from the factory.

As far as the "kit" cars go, the dealers are under strict orders to place one badge on the upper grille (mine is on the pass side, because I have a grill badge holder on the driver side) and on the driver's side rear. The factory cars have the front and rear JCW badges where U mentioned.

Can the stage 1 kiit be ordered and shipped all ready installed from the factory on a new build. I haven't placed an order and was wondering if the car would have to get to the dealership and then the Kit installed there.

Edit: This would be on a Cooper Clubman S Automatic

Nope. It is dealer installed. I ordered mine with the car so it would be at the dealer when the car arrived. The only down side is that I had no reference to see how much improvement it gave me. I would do it again, though.

This discussion has pretty much been about the Gen 2 hardtop. Anyone install this on the new R57 yet? I'm considering it.

My dealer decided to match the $1680 for the kit, and only charge me 3 hrs for install, so it's a pretty good deal I think.

This answer is not quite complete. While the stage 1 kit is not installed at the factory, it is installed at the VDC prior to dealership delivery if you get it with new car.

I ordered my stage 1 when i ordered the car new.

Just a clarification.

Well, I had my dealer to do the JCW Stage 1 kit on my R57 today. What a difference.
