JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
I just bought a 06 mcs jcw how can i tell if the jcw was installed at the factroy or a add on at the dealer
Well, you'd probably need to see a build sheet, or have your dealer look up the factory specs.
One thing you can verify is whether or not you have the JCW brakes (with the red front calipers & the JCW logo). If your MINI only has the regular MCS brakes (i.e. does not have the JCW brakes), then it was a dealer-installed JCW kit. All 1st Gen factory JCWs came with the JCW brakes.
Of course, even if your MINI does have the JCW brakes, it still doesn't guarantee that both the brakes & the tuning kit weren't dealer installed!
A factory JCW will also have the limited slip diff. This was also a stand alone option, but if you have it and pretty red front brakes, odds are you have a factory JCW.

Good point. But it's still "odds are", because I have a 2005 JCW MCS with all 3 (JCW Tuning Kit, JCW Sport Brakes, Limited Slip Differential) and of course my MINI is not a factory JCW (since it was a 2005).
Hopefully MariaChick will be able to get ahold of the build sheet, or do a lookup at the dealership, just to be certain.
