JCW R56 MCS -vs- JCW brakes
R56 MCS -vs- JCW brakes
Has anyone had the R56 brakes on their MCS and then changed to the JCW brakes? How much difference did you feel? What is your opinion on the upgrade? Anyone running the JCW brakes with a 16" wheel?
Hey Scott...if this question is referring to factory 16" wheels such as the ones on your car, they will not fit over the factory R56 JCW brakes.
Ouch!!! I thought they tried a whole group of 16"s at your shop and they all fit... I would hate to have to have both winter and summer wheels along with winter and summer brakes.

That fitment exercise was on a R52 JCW.
I ordered this kit when I ordered my 09 MCS. They came in the back of the car because i told them that i would install them myself instead of paying the dealer to do it. I installed them with the car only having 100 miles on it. The installation went as smooth as could be other than readjusting the e-brake cable due to a larger rear rotor pushing the caliper out about an inch. This kit is not near as touchy as the factory MCS brakes. You can modulate them much better. I have driven in two Porsche Club of America Driving Education events at out two local tracks. Awsome is all I can say about the performance of this kit. One of the tracks is Eagles Canyon and has several 1500+ ft straights that end in sharp 90 degree turns that require lots of braking. My last car that I ran at the same tracks was a 05 Boxster S and i can say very simular brake performance with this kit. I ran the stock Dunlop summer run-flats and had excellent braking all day long at both tracks. The pads have held up extremely well with little noticable wear after 1500 miles and two track weekends. I highly recomend this kit. They will be all the braking you will need. The only downside is pad availabilty in the short turn. I am very sure that will change soon.
Thanks for the great information. I need to figure out what to do about the winter wheels as they are 16" wheels before I add these brakes. I might look into some other pads and possibly some Powerslot rotors until then.
Any difference between the JCW brake kit for the 09 MCS and the brakes on the 09 factory JCW? Too many parts to keep track of here.

I drove the MCS and JCW back to back. I paid a lot of attention to the brakes as that was my 2nd biggest disappointment with my '05 MCS. The difference is huge. With the Brembos, you feel as if the rear end is up in the air on hard braking! Of course the JCW I test drove didn't have the sport suspension. Regardless, the Brembos made the front end dive considerably. The Brembos are one big reason I opted for the factory JCW.
I've got 17" OZ Ultraleggera on my '09 JCW, and they fit with no problem, tons of clearance. So I'd be pretty sure the 18" would fit
I think the 18 inch wheel has more offset than the 17, so it should fit nicely.
Looks very nice to have those red Brembos on! I may do it eventually.

So I have put the JCW brake kit on order. My plan is to sell my 16" factory MINI wheels with snow tires and just swap out tires at the seasons dictates.
I am going to do the install myself to save the $450.00 the dealer wants to put them on.
With the Motive Power Bleeder this job should only take about two hours!
