Alta short shifter installed

A few more things I finally got around to installing on Sunday. Alta short shifter, Craven shift well, Redline e-brake boot, JCW CF shift **** and CF e-brake. That short shifter took quite a bit more elbow grease to install than I would of thought. That's what I get for ordering stuff without reading the install directions. All that being said it was worth all the cussing and wrench throwing.

Thanks! As far as the feel/positioning and driving/shifting impressions. I love it. The throw is shortened up quite a bit and feels tighter to me. Flawless operation as if it were stock. The JCW **** was worth it also. It conforms to your hand much better than the stock golf ball I had.

I noticed the instructions for the Alta SS and others require the plastic dust cover to be left off with the shifter installed in a short throw position. Even with the exhaust heat shield in place, aren't you worried about dirt, road grime, mud, etc. getting in the shifter linkage and gunkin' it up, so to speak? I'm intersted how the shifter functions in a year or two without the cover in place.

Actually the instructions for the Alta SS only require leaving the cover off in position 3. In position 2 you have to modify the cover by trimming the ribs for clearance. Which is what I did . Then of course there is position 1 which requires no modification to the lid.

THANKS for the purchase and for the write up! The SS is worth it, but is a bit of a bugger! But if you have any suggestions for me to change the instructions, PLEASE let me know! Happy to take the advice.

If I can ever help in the future, PLEASE let me know!

The instructions were great! The only snag I ran into was popping the shift linkage rods off. The instructions make it sound like a wam bam twist pop and they are off. Maybe there is a technique you could put in there that could explain how to do it a little better. I really had to put some grunt into it to pop them off. That being said each car and part have there own difficulties. I got it done though and definately recommend this product. One last note love what you have done with your PW JCW. Looks Good!

THANK YOU on all counts! The one I can say is the use of the open end of a combination wrench over the ball, then rocking it off works pretty good. But admittedly it takes more effort than most think is appropriate to get it off.

Chat soon!

I thinking about getting this kit.
Did you need/use a lift to put it on or was it without? If not was it quite a bit harder?
Is the shifter **** position very much lower than stock. I like the stock height but not the throw.

You can install this using a hoist, or even a jack and stands. If you can get the car 18-36" up it would be easier for you.

The **** height is adjustable by you. So you determine how short the throw and ****.

Hope that helps! Let me know if I can help further!

I see you got the JCW CF e-brake on your mini, i have been having some problems with mine and i was told i need a adhesive or some kind of loctite to keep in on there. What did you do with yours to get it on?

I actually used duct tape. I think I got that idea somewhere on this site. Anyway it took about 5 attempts to get the thickness of the tape right. By that I mean how many layers of tape on the handle. It really sounds like a half a$$ way to go, but it really does work. Good luck!
