Any more thoughts/results on this kit? I am thinking about taking the plunge and ordering it this week.

Something to consider is resale. All the after market mod's will not make your car worth a dime more. The factory Stage 1 kit has to make it worth a grand or so more through the life of car.

I agree with you seebobgo. That is why I have not purchased anything other than an exhaust. I just don't think anything is as good as the factory upgrades. Thanks!

Went to a local dealer in Huntington,NY with my girlfriend to have her test drive a MCS. Were ready to buy so we sit down with the sales woman and crunch numbers. I want the JCW package and told her to add that on. She said install is extra and Ill be right back with price. After a minute to talking to one of the mechanics she comes back and tells us $3200 for package & install! What are you kidding! She back tracked and said Im not sure of price because the service manager isnt here. I tell her Ive been researching and find average time is two hours labor. She will find out and Ill call her tomorrow to get the price. but right now Im leary of doing business with this dealer after learning so much on this site. She better come back with a damn good number or Ill shop at the next dealer.

msrp for the kit is $2,100. evidently there are dealers that discount the kit up to about 25% if U wanna go that route. 2 hours of labor is right. so depending on yr local labor rates (here it's $100/hr) around $2,300 installed, max.

My dealer installed the ECU code this morning (installed everything else myself). The code update took a couple hours (needed a couple other updates) and was out for a blast of a drive.

I opted not to install the JCW airbox, instead I used the M7 Super AGS and I got to say, it hauls much better, freer flowing, less restrictive than the JCW and much smoother. Also removed the "noise maker" junk and used a plug kit from Defender of Speed and even better improvement !! Even the dealer was impressed at the difference.

Hope you all enjoy your setup also !

I installed my boost tubes today and boy, can you tell a difference. Boost tubes, inlet tube and JCW was definitely the way to go.

BTW, the boost tubes are a PIA to install.... my hands are still bleeding...lol.

YEP, sure is that good....

The best way I would describe it is if you've ever installed a pulley on a supercharged version, then that would be the kind of difference it makes.

I'm sure there will be other products that will come out that will make the car faster but basically, this is the way the car should have come from the factory.

I spoke to the saleswoman today and she confirmed two hours labor. Im going to order the complete kit online at a savings of $420 over Mini retail and have them install kit before I pick up car.

1825vine it looks like the best way to go is to order over phone from morristown, then have a local dealer install it. I'm actually in the process of doing this. I'm calling morristown monday. As for a dealer install, Bob Smith mini wanted 500 to install it. So I'm calling other dealerships around LA OC to find someone cheaper. I'll update this thread if i find cheaper.

Mark, it was a pleasure having you in the shop....sorry I could lend you the die grinder to modify the air box.....Got to come to the house for that, my insurance company is not as strict as Hendricks, LOL. So next time we get on the track, you better be in the shootout in the end.

Have fun at Mickey Meets MINI

Nick,

Am I understanding that correctly? $730 bucks for install???? That's RIDICULOUS.

You definitely need to check around.

Chad,

Hey bud... No need to apologize... I think I can find a die grinder or two at one of my shops....

THANKS for everything. It was worth a 4.5 hour drive to have you install my kit.... I'd do it again.

Unfortunately I was several thousands behind at the last shootout. My car just didn't seem as fast as everyone else's...

THAT IS NO LONGER A CONCERN

Can't wait to see ya'll on the track again.

Mark

I got calls back and found much better prices ranging from 325-400.
Monrovia mini $325
crevier and nick alexander $400.
The service manager at monrovia was also extremely knowledgeable, not to say the others weren't but he was the only one who didnt act like the install was hard.

The kit is simple to install. You've got a cold air intake.... (10-15 minutes)

Exhaust (20-30 minutes as worse case)

Though the ECU upgrade is time consuming, it's a matter of following prompts on the screen. I had about 12 updates that needed to be done before the software installed. (112 minutes worth... which incidently should be free)

I was charged 2.5- 3.0 hours labor (can't remember exactly) but realistically it should probably be about 2 hours.

Point is, 200-300'ish dollars should cover it. 400 bucks is still ridiculous...

Mark

That was a great deal... I think most installs for the rear swaybar are 150-200 bucks!

I'd wait and see how you like the kit first. I put the kit in and the alta inlet/boost tubes in but that's it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure it's worth the 800'ish price tag on the IC if you're not autox'ing your car. It won't add HP but will allow temps to remain cooler thus keeping the HP you have without getting lost in heatsoak.
