JCW CD?

I picked up my car on the fifth and it struck me tonight (not the car) that I did not get a CD for the software on the car.

I had read that this was included in the kit in the event that the ECU got wiped clean.

Did anyone who had the JCW installed at the VDC receive a CD?????

I didn't think the VDC was doing the JCW install? My car was ordered w/ the kit and it was installed at the dealer. Yes they did provide a disk, but it appeared to be a copy, so I'm not sure if they kept the original and gave me a copy just in case?

Mark, as I recall you bought from Alexander mini, as did I, this must be their process.

The tubes gave the car a little more overall power, but the sound of the engine is the best,it really growls now and you can hear the turbo scroll up and i think the ECU is liking its new found ability to breath. The car is still really new,but I took it back over to Alexander and Shep loved it to say the least...The car is really stupid fun with the tubes and the suspension goodies...I have a couple of other far more expensive German cars sitting idle in the garage because of it....

I did not get a CD with mine.

Called my dealer and asked about it. I was told that the CD is only important for the first ECU flash from the standard S ECU to the JCW. Any necessary future ECU updates will come to the dealers directly from MINI via modem. They actually will plug the car in and let it "talk" to MINI in the UK. Since it has been "imprinted" as a JCW car... MINI's computer recognizes it and treats it as such.

That said, its a cool souvinier IMO. Wish I had mine.

Your not missing much, but they should give it to you...It really shouldn't be a problem for them, probably just a hassle and you did pay for it...Take care and happy holidays

My local dealer did the install. A CD in a sealed case was included along with a John Cooper Works Certificate of Authenticity with the tuning kit number. Mine is 00527. The service adviser said it would/could be used for re-flashing in the event it was needed. At what point in the future that might not be used in favor of the computer talking to Mini and getting an improved flash I'd be curious to know. At any rate, I suppose the Certificate could be used for proof of the upgrade at resale, though we know you don't get much back for your upgrades. As was stated, it's a "nice to have" item.

I was given the CD by the dealer (Momentum MINI Houston) and was told to guard it with my life.

I keep the certificate with the bill of sale and title, the disc is in my office,It is nice to have and I think this upgrade means more than most ,especially in the true value and enjoyment of the car. The JCW engineering may seem simple with the kit,but it sure works and is truly alot of fun...just enjoy....

I'm just wondering why customers would need to keep track of this when the dealers should always be able to re-flash the ECU?

"Guard it with your life"????

I think its just proof that you paid for JCW more than anything.

They probably just don't want it getting out into the public, if the new ecu's are anything like the old ecu's, the software's encrypted with your VIN number, a developer given a few of the cd's and the corresponding VIN#'s should be able to crack it open...
Then you've got JCW ecu's for everybody
or the ability to do a stealth re-map of the ecm without the need for a unichip/piggyback.

To my understanding the new ECU's are in fact exactly like that, so your assertion would make sense. Now I kind of want it to get out to the public... I want the JCW ECU tune but none of the other parts as they'd be redundant to my current and future aftermarket plans.
