Will they make a JCW sound kit? I miss the growl.

Thoughts?

 

I think it's now pretty much part of the engine kit (pipe and intake?).
It (the JCW kit) definately has more of a growl once installed . So my guess is "no, they won't".

Take a look at the Alta cat-back if you want a hearty growl. It sounds sublime.

 

are you satisfied with your JCW Cooper S? a li'l review would be helpful , Just ordered it recently.

...my opinion has improved a bit since then, as I've since noticed some subtlties that I missed on my initial drive (specificly smoother power delivery and no dip around 3000 RPM).

My guess it that since US sales for the R50 Sound Kit weren't very high, IF it's developed for the R56 (Justa)Cooper, it won't make it here. But that's just my guess. Personally, I think they should develop it and bring it over.

 

Damn. I am a tad nervous about after-market products. The thought of something going wrong, eventually, with my car, I can hear the dealer now ... oh, it is your aftermarket ***. At that point, how am I supposed to truly tell if they are trying to get out of a warranty issue or if I do need to get the after-market item serviced.

But, yes, I am drooooooling over Alta's catback and downpipe as well.

Aren't those products only for the S? You started with a question about the Sound Kit, so I assumed the thread was about the non-S R56 Cooper.

 

Doh, so did I. The Sound Kit for the first generation Cooper was just for the NON-S which included a new intake set-up, exhaust, a software remap and a few badges.

Knowing that, I have to say there will probably never be a Sound Kit for the R56 Cooper S. However, I'll have to agree with msh441, BUT that it pretty much IS the new JCW Engine Kit - except that it actually produces power gains.

 

My bad. I have an S. Why does that make things different tho? The old S's had much more of a growl. I want that back!

 

It just caused some confusion. As dickdavid explained, the JCW Sound Kit is only for the non-S. Reviews of the new R56 JCW kit for the S have said it is louder than stock, but generally JCW is not as loud as aftermarket products.

 

i'd much rather them making a true tuning kit for the mc like the first jcw car instead of the *sound* kit. the sound kit was expensive and imho quite a waste of money and the jcw badge

OK, now I have to think about making the growl louder with aftermarket items.

Compared to aftermarket, the Sound Kit is expensive. However, if you can afford it, it's much better than any MC aftermarket intake/exhaust/remap combination upgrade out there, imho. You really shouldn't knock it until you've tried it.

Does it deserve a badge? Probably not. But on the flipside, it is a lot of money. You might as well get some bling to show for it.

That being said, you aren't paying for the badges, but rather a system of components that are designed to work well together and make the most of each other. Having dealer installed parts doesn't hurt the piece of mind of those folks worried about warranty.

I know it's not for everybody. In fact, I opted not to get it on my second Cooper because of the price. However, as much as I love my aftermarket parts, I wish I could have afforded it.
