Drivetrain John Cooper Works Tuning Kit R56

The MSRP is around $2100...will depend on the dealer,( only 75 kits on national freeze)...the Install its a bit tricky you may need new spark plugs which you will get charged for, you also may need to have your original software upgraded to the latest which is about 3.5 hours of download time, and then the new software can be installed. the exhaust airbox and sticker and badge application will be around 2.5 hours, so i will say more like 5 or 6 hours, being conservative.

I spoke to my dealer some time ago and he told me I could just get the re-flash because of my cars current mods, so I ask, would the 3.5hrs of download time be considered 3.5hrs of their time? If so, that's going to be $380.00. I wonder what the gain is going to be
I dont think it's 3.5 hours of download time, they had mine reflashed real fast
My dealer has done ECU updates under warranty so far. I haven't paid for one yet. Why would I be charged to update to prep for this kit? I think that's BS.
I plan on paying MSRP + two hours and tax. I plan to write them a check BEFORE the work is done after we've agreed on the pricing specifics. If it's any more than that or I can't pay for the kit up front, I would find a dealer that will take my money up front and at least charges what BMW/MINI suggests. If they take 6-7 hours figuring it out... too bad. Thier dime, not mine.

...Oh and the software, thats right
...what's a silly muffler and air box will do with no programing...
still sounds rediculous. only benefit is it maintains warranty :/
id like to see what 3rd party chip tuners can do...if they ever get back to us

I would love to see it on a DYNO before and after.
I would think a "before and after" test would be in order. before I would hand over approx. $2300 bucks. It does sound real expensive for a Muffler, air filter ecu and a bunch of stickers. I'm feeling a bit skeptical about the 20 horses.

I am aware that a full exaust is more 1000 $ cheaper than the JCW catback, and has bigger gains
I'm looking forward to dyno's
well im more than sure a 3rd party vendor will able to up that easily.
According to my dealer there are only 2 things that will kill my warranty on various parts.
A) Replacing the Breaks with non Mini Approved Parts
B) Doing any internal work to the Engine(i.e. Injectors, sleeves, turbo..etc). Exhausts, intakes, springs, coils, etc are fair game.

A picky dealer could claim your non MINI pads caused excessive rotor wear or caliper damage or basically anything and then you are on the hook for the repair and the fight with them and/or MINI USA.
Most dealers aren't like that but they can and often do change the rules and move the goal posts all at the same time.
As for price a decent exhaust is what, 1 grand at least installed on the car and if they ever get an ECU flash it will be 400 +, maybe more initially because of the need to recoup some R & D costs. Aftermarket could get you very close to the JCW price with limited warranty recourse. I'm leaning towards the kit because in this initial period it's the safest option. By the middle of this car's cycle the aftermarket will be like the R53 market and then it would make sense to go that way IMO.
