I just got my white tail lamps and decided to install it myself.

I'm from California and wanted to know if I needed to buy those red reflectors. Are they required by law?

I also am trying to take out the 3rd brake light. I dont know how to take it off and it looks like the screw is a weird type.

Please help me out...

The red reflectors are required everywhere that I know of.

The weird screw is probably a TORX screw. 6 pointed star?

Cool, I got the screws off the 3rd brakelight, now I can't seem to take it out. Anyone know if there's a trick to taking the brakelight off? It looks like I have to take the spoiler off to do this.

HELP PLEASE

I didn't have any problem removing and replacing the third brake light on my Mini Cooper S. The rear spoiler certainly did NOT have to come off. I was concerned about that because one of the vendors said the spioiler had to be removed, so I initially didn't buy the light. Then I emailed with someone who had done it and found out the spoiler didn't have to come off. Once you have removed the Torx screws from the inside of the hatch, the light fixture just comes out. If yours is not coming out easily, maybe you need to give it a push from the backside, maybe you can push a small "something" through the hole where the Torx screws were and get it to pop out a bit. Or try gently prying a bit from the outside with something like a cloth-covered flat screwdriver tip. Once the light itself comes out, there is ust one simple electrical plug connection. Good luck!

The 3rd brake light can be a pain to unclip - atleast on my S it was it...i found that using a real small small small screwdriver to fit in there and push down worked best.

Thanks, I'll try that 1st thing tomorrow. How about the red reflectors? I really don't want to drill into my bumper. Is there an alternative? maybe an adhesive refelctor?

you can use whatever you want for the rear reflectors as long as they are red!
