Interior/Exterior Shift boot removal

I just replaced shiftknob and boot with tuscan biege yesterday.
from inside and under the ring at the bottom of the boot with your fingers pull toward center and up. the ring is flexiable and held in by clips.
then pull boot insideout up over the shiftknob. you will see a plastic sleeve, at the top of the boot break it. the new boot should come with a replacement the purpose of the sleeve i think is to hold boot tight to ****
and hold shiftknob on tighter. in restalling new boot pay close attention to the position of the clips on the retaining ring. know try pulling shiftknob off.
good luck and HAPPY MOTORING

Well i figured it out. Seems not too many people are doing these shift ***** or the hand brake. I used a craftsman trim tool, kind of like a hooked dental tool to get in between the trim ring and the console and then just pulled up. you should be able to just use your hands and pull the trim ring up and then inside out with the boot. I just installed the JCW **** over the weekend. If you have any more questions just hit me up.

Nope, once you remove the shift boot you can see the guts of the shifter assembly. You might want to get a hold of Cravenspeed i think. They had some sort of block off plate for the R53 models. I believe they had it on the outmotoring.com website. But so far i have not seen anything for the 2007.

R56 shift boot
Ok for a 2012 R56s the shift boot comes off by working a couple plastic trim tools down in between the shift boot trim ring and the counsole. It is extremely tight. I felt like I was going to break it more than once. You get it a little separated and then pull up. With some work and unfortunately lots of force it comes off.

Bumping this...need trim ring!
Hi folks. Piggybacking here. I got a gorgeous shift boot gaiter from Red Line Goods. Got everything off easy peasy but the damn tabs on the retainer almost all broke off. I guess they're very brittle for 14 year old car. I don't want to buy the whole Contraption just the ring. Has anyone have any luck for an R56? I've seen them for first gens...

Had the same problem. All the tabs broke off, haven't been able to find just the ring anywhere.
Only two options I've seen for R55 is to buy a whole shift **** with boot and ring or the Cravenspeed kit that does away with the shift boot entirely. Has anyone has any luck finding just the ring?
At least the Cravenspeed kit that does away with the shift boot will be easier to keep clean.
