Racing seats and harness "idiot light" problems

Hi all;
I installed 2 new corbeau racing seats and harnesses that look great but created a problem. The passenger seat airbag system believes there is a less than 20lb. person in the seat and therefore has disarmed the bag. Does anyone know how to "fool" the system so it re-arms and protects my passenger in a collision. Also the racing harness replaced the stock belt system and now I am plaqued with flashing idiot lights and warning bells. How do I override or fool this car that is apparently smarter than I am. Thanks for any help.

i remember an old thread on here about splicing wires together in the seat belt latch/catch thingy to turn off the belt light in the dash. for the air bag i know on some vehicals the weight sensors are attached to the seat where the the frame attaches to the track, look like little boxes sitting onto of a small shaft, and others ive seen are in the cushion itself. if you have a wiring diagram look for the signal wire from the pass. seat to the air bag control module. usually the signal wire either sends a ground signal or like a 5 volt reference to signal the module to activate the bag. i dont know how MINI does it but thats what i have found from the vehicals is work on.

Good thread. Thanks!

Does anybody know how to fool the passenger seat weight sensor though?

from what i have found on realoem it appears the weight sensor is a mat that is between the bottom seat cushion cover and the cushion itself. unless you can find a way to mount that mat on your new seats, i dont know if youll be able to reactivate it. from what i can guess the air bag module is sensing a resistance change through the mat to measure the amout of weight in the seat. and if thats how it works then you could possibly place a resistor with the proper amount of resistance in the circuit and fool the computer to think that it is loaded with enough weight to activate the bag.

Heres a link to the part im talking about. its the coil mat thingy in the middle.
