Moss Mini Rear Seat Delete

I am looking at doing a rear seat delete, but not sure where I want to get one from. I see that Moss Mini has one now. Does anyone here have one installed? Do you like it? I don't have time to make one myself so I will end up buying one. I have a gift card from Moss Mini so it would be a cheap mod for my mini. Just want some feedback on their Rear Seat Delete option.

Thanks,

Ken

Well the pictures on the Moss sight:

http://www.mossmini.com/Shop/ViewPro...00&SortOrder=1

appear to be the same on the original rear seat delete kit:

http://www.rearseatdelete.com/mini.html

I have the original with harness access and it is a decent product.

It doesn't have any support in the middle so it tends to buckle and make noise if you set things there, but otherwise it is a good product.

i beleive they are carrying the original "rear seat delete" kit. it's plenty strong, but does flex. i love mine and my 60 pound dog loves is back there now. it will allow more noise in, but that can easily be remedied.

Is there a way that I can add support under it? I really like the idea of more cargo room. As it is now I normally keep my rear seats down all the time, so the noise shouldn't be a huge deal. Plus I plan to use some dynomat to dull the noise. I just want to make sure that if I out some suite cases back there that it won't snap in half or start to bend and stay bent. Thanks for all the replies so far.

Just keep the old seat bottom in place and unscrew that black rear seat mount.

I think with the correct skills, one could design some bracking to prevent the cover from flexing, but that is more than I was interested in doing at the time I installed mine. I usually don't carry that much back there. I have kept the deck lid and installed a net across where the upright portion of the back seats was. This allows me to securly place things in the back portion of the hatch and not worry too much about them coming up to visit me under extreme conditions.

I think you will like the product either way. You just can't beat free.

I like the idea of the seat delete, but worry that carrying my track tires back there would cause a permanent bend in it. Bracing may be the way to do it.

I was thinking about getting a rear seat delete kit as well and this makes me want to go out and but one right now. A few questions though, why are they all over $150? What makes this big piece of plastic so expensive? If anyone knows of them cheaper let me know.

Hey all. PM Brian (COR BLMY). He and his son have made a little business out of selling the same design of RSD kits as I made. They are high quality and look great. The carpeting on them blends well with the OEM interior, which is much better than the plastic the Moss one uses.

WOW I really like the one that Brian (COR BLMY) has made. I went ahead and PM'd him to see if he is still making them. Was just going to order from Moss Mini until I saw that reply. Plus I live about 20 minutes from the place that make the Rear Seat Delete, so I think I am just going to drive there and see if I can pick one up and save on shipping. I might just save my gift card from Moss Mini and buy a short shifter on something else.

Thanks,

Ken

does anyone know offhand how much weight you can lose by deleting the rear seats?

or:

is it enough to make any significant improvement to speed?

edit: Moss quotes it at 36lbs. Is that a significant weight for the MINI? (i feel like its kind of a dumb question)

I removed my rear seats for space not weight. One of the local MINI owners made his own delete kit, sold his MINI, sold me the DK. It looks like most of the others. Mine is made of thick aluminum covered with carpet.

FYI, you remove your rear seats you will have more road and exhaust noise. Yes, even more so then "just" lowering the rear seats.

I've carried track tires on it with no permanent bend . I have the one similar to the Moss Mini item and it really is a nice product.
