I stumbled upon this in "Show us your ROOF"

I know a lot of people have been curious about this (myself very much included) since Davbret mentioned it in his "40 pounds lighter in the back seat" thread, and just because it's such a cool idea

Here's the link to the carbon fiber sunroof replacement

At the bottom of that page and the top of the next he says it's not something they can sell, but just something they're giving Car and Driver - there are only like 5 in existance. Hope no one got excited about it. I was really bummed out reading that, but it explains why we can't get any info about it.

I'd be happy to put you in contact with the team supplier that outfitted us with the panel. No clue as to cost or availability. But PM if you are serious.

We just got done with the interior last night. Got the seats installed and the last of the sunroof hole headliner panels in place. Really trick. Can't wait to post some pictures. Should have 'em up on the SuperTuner page later today.

We also fitted the intelligent water sprayer, the race KW coilovers, Volk LE37T and an intercooler inlet and outlet temp monitor in the past couple days. The new head goes on tonight!!! Schrick cams with bigger valves and all smoothed out. London stainless header and exhaust goes on tonight as well. Car is all but done.

And to answer some questions from another thread:

RChristiano asked:
Can you tell me more about the sunroof delete? Can it be put in/taken out with ease so it can be in for track days and out for cruising? I've searched the forums and haven't seen any information about it. Most importantly, will it be available for sale at any point?
No, this is definitely not something that can be taken in and out easily. You have to remove the backseat side panels and upper trim to get the headliner out. Then you have to remove about 14 screws and drop the sunroof out. Then you have to fabricate S-bent pieces of aluminum to secure the new panel from the original sunroof mounting holes. Then expoxy the panel to the attachment pieces. Then reinstall the headliner and trim and panels. A full day project. Then you are left with holes where the sunroof was in the headliner and the black surround trim in the headliner doesn't work as it attaches to the sunroof itself! More fabrication needed there to make it look good. We made 1/8" thick hardboard panels with as close a color match as we could find headliner fabric stretched over it. The back panel is plain, but the front panel has the Madness logo embossed in it. We then used black edging to finish off the sunroof holes, and finally expoxied the sunroof panels in place. Pheww! Alot of work to say the least.

I think that someone should work on a single glass pane that is totally removable as an insert. That would be so HOT!!!! I would buy that almost definatly!!! Hmmm... Engineering time!!

Ok, got a shot of the new headliner look. Didn't photograph very well. But it's light silver and plays nicely with the interior and the embossed logo is subtle yet spicey.

What is that black mass that comes off from the roof liner? Is it for a garage door or radio or something?

How hard is it to get the roofliner customized anyways?

That black piece is the left over from the sunroof control panel. Without it there's quite a large hole in the headliner.

Not hard to get liner customized. We simply wanted to modify it in a way that was not permanent (other than the front sunroof panel surround tirm which is attached to the control panel we had to cut apart). Any decent interior shop can do it. I just happen to have some skills there and decided to employ a hot rodder trick with the embossed headliner logo.
