Interior/Exterior Does The Roof Bolt-On?
Well, after 400 miles my MCS was hammered by hail. The damage to the roof is so extensive that I'd like to just replace the roof entirely if the roof bolts on (as Range Rovers do) as opposed to it being welded on. Does anyone knoe how the roof of the MCS is attached?
Thanks

Based solely on the "your the factory" video on the MINI website, it looks like the roof is welded on. Also, I haven't spotted any nuts or bolts holding my roof on.
Bummer about the hail damage though.

I believe the roof panel is actually attached with adhesive and then tack welded in critical places. Check out the factory tour stuff on MINI USA. I'd inquire with a top-notch body shop to compare replacement versus repairing the existing metal.
Best of luck to you.
With much sympathy,

Given that the roof is painted the same color as the body (and then painted white if so-ordered), I'm thinking it's welded on early in the assembly process. Before the paint. I know my "white" roof is really EB as I can see EB under the white in a few places where I've gotten stone chips in the roof paint.
I'm not sure if you can tell if it is bolted or not by these photos. It was posted by someone who had a custom headliner installed. Look at gone.jpg, gone1.jpg and gone2.jpg. They show the roof of the car without the headliner. Maybe someone could tell from these pics if it is bolted or welded. http://www.djkaotix.com/mini/pics/pics/liner/

The roof is most definitly welded on to the car.
To replace it the shop will have to cut the old skin off and weld a new one on. Then paint and reinstall the glass and parts.
If the hail damage isn't too bad I would look to repairing it. Or even better if you could go the paint-less dent repair way.
