How do you get the Alta shifter to be less notchy

I have just fitted my Alta shifter and find the gear selection a bit notchy, its not realy a bother but i wounder if it will lessen in time .Also i have the shifter set at a low position and find the 6th gear a little hard to select .Its ok but you cant fight it other wise it wont select very well.Is this just a caracturistic of short shifters. As i said its probably something to do with a different shift pattern but i would like to know just in case i can adjust it.

had the same problem...

use the middle setting, it won't shorten your shifts dramatically, but it will make shifting more pleasurable, it is very notchy otherwise.
it will also 'give' a little with a couple weeks of shifting/you'll also get used to it and it won't seem so bad but the middle setting should cure most of your worries.

i do agree that the short shifter by Alta isn't what it should be...i've felt better (non mini cooper shifters but i've had better short shifters in my old cars)
