front grill

where do you guys buy your front blacked out grills for the S?

the chrome/louvered look ain't cuttin' it...

i seen black plastic that resembles the black plastic vent grills by the windshield, same material/pattern, who sells these? I need the upper/lower ones for an 06 S.

Classic MINI among others. You want the grill from the aero package. The grill is sold separately. Can't remember the cost but it's pretty inexpensive. You can also check out the one that M7 sells. Similar but all powder coated metal.

Both are NAM vendors and you can get their info from the vendors list.

i like both,
but the mini aero grill seems like too much work on that bottom piece

does the m7 fit right in? no extra labor involved, no need to remove the front bumper?
does it come in black? any pics of one in black?

thanks.

What kind of price do you put on your time? the M7 set will run you ~$350, vs $90 for the factory kit. Plenty of posts here on installing the lower factory grille, so likely lots of tips to be had on making it easier.
Check the M7 site www.m7tuning.com for a pic of the black lower grille.
There are also a couple of different lower grilles which require no disassembly; they attach to the factory lower grille. Not my cup of tea, but it might work for you.

I had considered the M7 Grilles. They're made by Grillcraft for M7. Once I saw these in-person, I changed my mind. To me, the material looks like something that comes from a hardware store - like what would be on a BBQ grille; painted (powder coated) black.

Just my 2¢ worth.

i don't have a lot of time to be taking apart the bumper, if i did, i would just buy a complete Aero front bumper and replace the whole thing, but i will agree that they look a hundred times better than the M7's.

now if i only had someone in my area who's got time and done this before...i can buy him lots of beer and pay for a lapdance or two...

It is not that hard, and you don't have to take off the bumper.
I did mine with the instructions on here, and a little modification of my own.
I spent about 2 hours total start to finish.

My .02...

I've had both on my car. The MINI aero grills were first:

I liked these. The middle grill is a pain to install but very doable.

But the more I had these on the car the more the "cheap plastic" look bugged me. So I decided to try the M7 grills:

My personal opinion is that these look fantastic. They are not "cheap screen material" looking at all - but give the car a very finished and expensive look.

MY MINI has the "sport grills" for $80.
It is the honey comb type plastic like the vents.

The main upper grill is EASY to get off.
(speed nuts on plastic posts... the trick is to ues a knife or putty knife and help the 10 MM speed nut off AS you turn it.)
The small mid grill can be difficult it can be removed with the bumper ON !
First take off the chrome section... you can use a pry tool and... you will think it is about to break, and it may indeed break. I removed mine and it is 100% intact.
The strip is double sided tape glued on. this is STRONG stuff ! A bit of heat and pull it off.
The BIGGESRt pain is removing the double sided tape and its glue. I uaed GOOF OFF and it still was a long job.
For the upper and mid grill to look their best you will need to do some painting. Just hold up the new grill and you will see.

I purchased the grill but ended up making my own upper and mid mesh grill to match my brake ducts and lower grill.

So this is where if you really wanted the MYMINI sport grill ...I say PM me

The M7 looks great on SCHULZMC. My S is Hyper blue and white, not sure if I would want to go silver or black. Any thoughts anyone?

i've decided to purchase the Aero bumper and aero grill kit
this way everything just screws in, no modifications, just remove stock bumper and install Aero bumper.

i do have to get it painted but i need to paint the wheel arches and rocker panels anyway

i do like the more aggressive look of the Aero front bumper so i might as well go for the whole package.

one NEW pepper white front bumper and stock grills for sale soon!!! LOL
