Light Bar

Your thoughts please, Alta or Uber, I plan on mounting 4 Hella 500's, 2 fog and 2 driving.

Both are great choices. I'm not sure how difficult the Uber bar is to install, but the Alta is pretty involved. I love mine.

The Uber bar looks like it's a slightly cleaner looking installation, and may allow for larger lights to be used, (not sure, just judging by the photos on their web site).

I have the Uber. Still not finished with the install as It involves drilling into the bumper and they don't have the correct measurements for the Aero bumper yet. Bar itself was easy enough to install once I figured out a crowbar was neccessary. (Can we say tight fit?) LOL Will be very happy once I get it finished.

What about the Out Motoring setup? Get two sets. No drilling required.

I have the mounts available through OutMotoring and, as said, no drilling is required. The only caution I would have with them is that the mounts that attach to the bumper are aluminum and the light mounts that screw into them are steel. It's possible if you are sufficiently ham fisted to cross thread the light mounts and get them at an odd and nonmatching angle.

Thanks all for the input, looks like I will have to wait for the M7 to come out now. Does anyone have a complete picture of the Uber bar NOT installed?

Thanks

Dave

I wouldn't jump on the M7 too soon. Make sure it works first.

I've been kicking the light bar idea around for a year, I think I can wait for a little while longer.

Aargh! I bought their bar and I also have the aerokit. I guess I'm glad I didn't try to install it yet. Can you explain the "crow bar" biz a bit more please? Also, did they give you any idea about the timing on better measurements or a new template? thanks

Here's something REALLY different from MINI Sport. "Designed and wind tunnel tested to encourage airflow through the bonnet scoop."

I agree. Waiting to hear more on this as I also have the Uber and Aero Kit. Just FYI, before I purchased the bar, I called Uber and asked about compatibility with the Aero Kit...they said there were no issues.

Jerry it's starting to look like you're on a anti M7 quest.....?

Yes we are working on something very different and if not revolutionary
it's certainly very evolutionary. I would call it a hybrid/convertible system
giving incredibly flexibile choices..... That's all I can say right now.

The system is built to my specs/ideas by a very capable company, so expect
perfection in fit and finish.

I will also give the customer choices when it comes to the lights....

Uber said they should have something by the first of January as far as a pattern for drilling the holes goes. They had mentioned that others had done small test holes under the bumper to find the correct locations for the aero kit.
As far as the crowbar, it was very tight getting the ligt bar to go over the correct bolts for mounting. There is a small lip on the plate where the mounting bolts are located. The bar need to go over this before it will fit onto the bolts. I tried to do it by hand and could not get it done. A crowbar is definitely neccessary.

I love my Alta bar. I have 2 fogs in the middle with white driving lights on the outside. Only complaint I have is that I need to put a few washers between the IPF lights and where they mount to the bar. They gave me plenty in the kit but I didnt see a use for them. Turns out I dont have enough upward adjustability to get the two fogs aimed down the road as they are just barely touching the bumper. I need to scoot them off the bar just a hair to be able to aim them up a bit higher. Did you understand that!lol
