And it's perfect for soft plastic parts (like polyurethane ground effects kits) that can't be vacuum-plated, or for parts that would be prohibitively difficult to remove from the car to dip-chrome.

The biggest drawback is the cost. It's $150 for eight ounces, or $1200 per gallon. Plus, it's delivered "ready-to-spray", which means that you don't mix it with reducers or catalysts before applying it. With other uber-expensive paints, a $1200 gallon gets mixed with reducer to give you 1-1/2 or 2 gallons of sprayable paint. With the Mirrachrome, one gallon means one gallon, so the cost per *sprayable* ounce might even be higher than some of the exotic colour-shifting paints like House of Kolor's "Kameleon" paint that sells for almost $2000 per gallon.

I dont know why House of Kolor's gets so much for the Kameleon its not even that great! I dont see how it changes colors. Always looks purplish.

Actually, I've found the HoK brand to have pretty dramatic colour shifts. A lot of it depends on what colour base coat you use under it, as well as which particular Kameleon paint you choose. They have red-to-gold, cyan-to-purple, silver-to-green, green-to-purple, magenta-to-gold, gold-to-silver, blue-to-red, green-to-blue, copper-to-green, gold-to-green, and a sapphire that they admit only has a limited colour shift.

Thanks for the info, Scott. I'd like my bonnet stripes painted using that Mirrachrome paint! The vinyl ones are too fragile. I wonder how tough the Mirrachrome is?

Well, Mirrachrome is designed to be followed up with automotive clearcoat, so it shouldn't be any more fragile than the paint anywhere else on your car. Plus, that means that you could bury the stripes in the clearcoat so that you wouldn't be able to see/feel a ridge at the edge of the stripe.
