I had a vision as soon as I saw others tweaking their rear lights.
"you must cross BMW with MINI" said a strange voice.
"Aaaahh, I see the future" I said

Here's the deal: My 3-er uses one function per bulb. This requires four bulbs for the rear-end; Running light, Turn light, Brake light, and Reverse. Since we don't use the rear Fog in the U.S. My plan was to utilize it according to my plan.
Fog light has become Brake light
Turn light remains
Brake/Running light becomes Running light only!

I modified the "circuit board", adding a wire jumper, and cutting the trace to the Brake+ on the lower Red lamp.

Love it!
Cheers,
Ryan

A similar mod has been on the site for over a year...You're correct, it's great, but there is an easier way.

easier? Do tell Sirron!
I know the general mod is old news, I hadn't seen anyone keep a single brakelight per side though! I think moving the brake to the top of the cluster makes the car look more balanced, and is easier to see for Joe-SUV too!

P.S. Doug, it's a bit far for me to just drop over Otherwise I would!

Easier---wrong word---different is better. I just like to see the whole back end light up, so that the drivers behind me can stop in time. Ron.

My philosophy was this:

I wanted to keep the same current draw that the system was designed for, thus reducing resistive losses through heat, and reducing a dreaded insulation fire!

Using one bulb per function will also theoretically increase bulb life, since there are more bulbs doing the same number of operations.

I thought about doing the "usual" of Brake being all four lights, however, I don't like being rude by buning the retinas of fellow Motorers (regardless what they're driving!)

Cheers,
Ryan

Very well done. That's exactly what I was considering doing. I'd like the "normal" quad light setup but don't want to add another 4 Amps to those flimsy little wires.
