A little Black-Out and an Aero Wing.
So over the weekend I decided that my chrome stuff just had to go. I had just picked up a B&B Exhaust about 2 months ago and the tip was already turning gold and rainbowy when it got really hot. I decided I was going to paint it black and found some guys on the forums that had already painted their tips black so I knew what kind of paint to buy. Well I got kinda carried away and did my door hands, gas cap, and repeaters. Tell me what you think. I also just installed a CF Aero Wing and I Love IT!
Here is the 5.25" B&B tip
CF Aero Wing
Door Handle
Gas Cap
Side Repeater (red "S" to come)
My horrible Full Body picture...

Sorry, but those side vents look nasty...
Did you peel off the red material in the center of the "S" or paint over it? Looks like you have serious bubbling going on in there. The handles and the gas cap look surprisingly good given that you just taped them off and sprayed them, but is that a chip already on the gas cap, or just something on the photo?
Last, I hope you really did something to help the paint adhere to the cap and the handles, which will both get a lot of touch action. I have a pair of OEM Cooper S tips that the previous owner failed to rough up, and the high-temp paint eventually flaked off in chunks...

Yeah, looks great if it lasts.......unless the surfaces were properly prepared Im afraid what looks good now will look like crap in a hurry. If you are married or wear rings I would be VERY worried about those handles. I open the door with my left hand, and rings will scratch that paint in short order

Looks good ...
and another vote for you to do the beltline.
I am interested as well if you preped the handles and if yes or no ... how long it lasts and looks good.
The "S" on the repeater is not a flat surface to start with as it is reflective.
It may have had a reaction to the paint or that may just be how rough it is.
I tinted my taillights all red and the chrome is no longer visable.
MAYBE if you dark tinted them you would have the same result.
I'll bet if you were handy you could use the blackout tape or even paint the outer edge of the taillights.
Again ... looks good !

Nice job and thanks for the tips. I have removed ALL the chrome I can (legally). I will keep the tape in mind in case mine starts to chip or peel.
Feel free to check out mine in my photo gallery. Maybe there are some features you might want to try.
Good Luck and nice work.

You need to powdercoat/paint your exhaust tips. That way only Pooper is in chrome

I am NOT an EXPERT but..
From what I can tell the lamps have requirements as far as high and low beam, and you wouldn't want to do the reflective 'cone' directly behind the lamp.
but the "extra' chrome "around" the bulbs seem to not be regulated
MAN that would look HOT !
I have seen the color painted insides , but yours in black would be so cool.
do it ! do it !

On the side repeaters I just left some of the sticky left behind on it because it gave it some "style" I am going to replace them with the norm red "S" stickers that were on them, or maybe blue ones I dont know. There was no prep involved Just kinda came to thought while I was out there. My plan to protect the paint was to buy some 3M Clear Bra material and coat them but I dont know. Not married so the ring thing isn't a problem but I used BBQ paint and they say the hotter it gets the more the paint cures. Its mighty hot in Phoenix, even a couple of days ago it hit 103 so hopefully that will make the paint stronger. I just ordered the material to do my beltline. And...the little speck on the gascap was from the camera, right when I saw it I ran out side freakin' out but it was fine Thanks for all the kind words.

great looking stuff! i plan to do mine soon!
what is the most common black paint to use? brand/type??? where to get it? cost?
also...what does everyone use to "scuff" the chrome? sand paper? paint etching chemicals?
do most people remove gas cap/door handles to paint? if so, is there a "how to" on the removal?
any info would be helpful, thanks!
