JCW Carbon Fiber Downtubes

OK, yes I'm a Carbon Fiber *****, but I had to have them to finish off the look.

They're hot! How did you end up getting the old tubes out? With the new tubes in the car having the larger ends I'm having issues removing mine.

Thanks, a buddy of mine at the dealership did it for me, but he pulled the entire center section up to get the old ones off. Took about 30 min to do the job.

I've also purchased the carbon fiber downtubes and cupholder/shifter rings to go with the carbon fiber dash on my not-yet-delivered MCSc. (It's amazing the pile of parts I'm accumulating before the car has even gotten here yet!)

The carbon fiber parts are well-constructed, and the clearcoat is gorgeous, but I was a little disappointed that the parts are all CF over ABS plastic, and not straight carbon fiber. I know it doesn't matter from a weight perspective, since I wasn't going to save much weight on a 2800-lb car anyway, but it feels a little "fake" that the parts are carbon-covered plastic, if that makes any sense. I'm just used to Ducati motorcycle parts, where "carbon fiber" almost always means that the part is made entirely of CF, and not carbon-covered plastic.

The MINI carbon bits do look great, though!

Simple . Remove the four torx screws that hold the downtubes in.

Then remove the two screws in the base of the small cupholders. Then, remove your shift ****, and shifter ring, as well as shift boot. (In the automatic MINI you will also have to unplug the gear indicator LED).

There are also two more phillips screws hidden beneath the mirror adjustment console. To remove the mirror adjustment console, get a SMALL flathead screwdriver and pry the mirror console up. Just wedge it in and push up. Be careful not to scratch. Then unplug the mirror console and set it aside.

Finally, remove those two screws that are now visible. You can now move the center console around to the point that you can pull the downtubes out from the bottom .

Oh...and Swarley, the carbon fiber looks great!

Wow... that IS so... simple.

Glad to know how it's done, though... I've wondered this myself in the past.

Rather than prying the mirror adustment console up with a screwdriver, I would try reaching two fingers through the shifter opening and seeing if you could pop the mirror adjustment console out by pressing on it from behind. If it works, great - if not, you can always try the screwdriver.

I probably made it sound a lot more complicated than it actually is. I am not the best at making instructions sound easy .

Nice pics... but if you're a real CF junkie, you aren't really finished until you get the CF dash too... but at that price, you have to REAAAAAAALLLY want it!

Me? I'm going the anti-CF and anti-chrome way. I plan on buying the JCW leather stuff.
