I found it in KB Toys... It's a metal-bodied toy, not a model kit. I think they had a red one, too... I'm still on the search for an orange cabrio toy in a larger scale - I think that Hot Wheels makes one, but I've never actually seen it.
And, no... I'd never consider spray-painting stripes on a REAL car.
I have a JB toy MINI... but it has a white roof and no bonnet or boot stripes (it's also justacooper). If you'd like a real challenge, make it look like Malibu Stacy!

I bet I could do that, actually... The boot stripes might necessitate taking off the tiny Cooper sticker, though... Nothing I can do about the MCS scoop, though, unfortunately... What scale is your car - the 1:18 or the 1:24? The blue one I did was the smaller 1:24 but I have a red 1:18 on my desk at work that's going "under the sprayer" tonight, and I can tell that that car has room for boot stripes.
Hey, why not? I taped off the roof of my Hot Wheels Cooper so I could put a checkered roof on (I just used a Sharpie), and think that is a perfectly good use of one's time!
