Hrmmm, mine must of just been IMPOSSIBLE to get out then, because I tried pushing them out from under the bonnet. No way were they coming out. Popping them out from the outside is a bit risky, but they pop out very quick.

My parts lady is like a friend now, she cuts me a pretty good price. You have Xenons too, I have the standard headlamps.

$70 ain't bad to be honest. look at what the CF ones run and they don't even fit properly.

My side markers were pretty difficult to get out as well. Took some time to make sure that the metal tab released smoothly. Had to resort to prying them out, and pushing from the back. Slow work, but it paid off.

For anyone who hasn't seen, they are actually three pieces. The outer chrome, the "S" and the grid behind. I was able to paint each part and then put them all back together so no chrome was visible.

good to know, seeing as how they are where I bought my two MCS's and the new one is due back tomorrow for an armrest

Any suggestions for removing the current ones to replace with painted? Does the whole assembly need to be removed, or just the rings?

You will need to remove the entire assembly

Pry off old ones (start with the squirter)

Make sure you have plenty of good 3m doublsided tape.

Be slow and patient

Bolt it all back in.

so, the surrounds are stuck to the assembly and not the hood then? so, pull the assembly first, then peel off the trim and replace with painted ones, then reinstall. Or, peel the surrounds off first?

Right, remove the entire light assy from vehicle. Then pry old rings off, they are held on by tape and some "slight" pressure fit tabs.

NICE JOB Tampa MCS. I actually went through the agonizing task of color matching the Cooper side grills for my MCS. I didn't realize they were one piece. In order to keep the mesh black, you will need to tape it before painting. NOT an easy task. I managed to do it with a lot of trial and error. I will try to post pics this weekend of what it looks like. I purchased the paint from myminiparts.com http://myminiparts.com/proddetail.php?prod=ESP

It's not a perfect match, but close enough!

Great job!

Cool! I am sure they'll look great Tampa MCS! Here are a few shots of my color matched Cooper repeaters. Not sure if anyone else has been patient/crazy enough to do this themselves other than me. Taping these grills off was a pain!

Do they not come apart like the Cooper S ones?
This is Dolmangar's pic...

This is exactly how mine looked before paint. I figured the Cooper ones would be easier without the S.

cooper grills are one piece

No PARTSMAN, that's why I said I was crazy. I actually had to tape off the insides of the grill so that I could keep them matte black.

I had to do a lot of cutting of little pieces of tape and test fit them to make sure I masked everything off perfectly. Took forever to get it done right.

If you don't have patience, I recommend just painting the S grills. :impatient
