The Next Best Thing to a Convertible

Does anyone know if you can temporarily remove both pieces
of glass from the sunroof without comprimising the seal? It is
something I'd like to explore if possible before the summer ends.

PLEASE FORWARD ME TO THE APPROPRIATE POST IF THIS IS
A DOUBLE POST. I'm sure I'm not the only one to think of this.

-Thanks

If its not possible, how was it assembled?

There are torx screws holding the moonroof to the frame that run along the base of the track. open your roof and you will see them along the edges. May be 6-8. i glanced at mine just this weekend as I may need to sand down and repaint mine. Mine was chipped from the factory and made worse by the dealer. sad but true and i dont trust them with my car. they dented by chromeline ring while changing out my sat nav monitor.

Yeah, I saw the torx nuts on the moonroof panel,
but was curious if the glass over the rear seat had
a similar connection.

It's probably glued in like a windshield and would
be ruined if you were to cut it out. I thought that
maybe if it were possible, then someone would have
developed some aftermarket for it. . . like a T-top.
Mini should have thought about that. Would have been
more like O-top. ha!

MINIBIMR, you're right about the front piece. but this verbage from a glass installer's site leads me to believe that even if you are a pro, removing the rear sunroof and leaving it whole is not a sure thing. certainly not just a few torx screws...

of course, that condition you threw in "without compromising the seal " makes this project a non-starter...

If trying to save the sunroof, use an Equalizer with an 8-inch serrated blade. Adjust the depth of the blade so that only 1⁄4 inch is exposed. When using any power tool, use plain water to lubricate the cutting area. Spray the top, sides and bottom, then make your cuts.
