VW Antennas fit Mini?

I'm looking to change the super long antenna on my MCSc to something a little bit more subtle (not really into the radio car look). Locally i've been able to find many replacement antennas for VW Golf/Jettas but nothing for Mini.

In some pictures the 'style' of the two antennas look like they could be interchangeable, but wondering if anybody knows if they truly are...

I've also found a "stubby" antenna from a VW Sharan online and it states that there is built-in amplification...will this work with my Mini system or cause some kind of interference or damage?

Also not sure if I should order the 6mm (for passat/audi) or 5mm rethreaded (for golf/jetta).

Any help you can offer is appreciated..

Thanks in advance...

The antenna on my Jetta fits my Mini. But the best looking one is off the Honda S2000. I just put one on my MINI - $20 from the Honda dealer and it works & looks stock.

I've taken a look at the S2000 antenna and it just looks a little bit 'off' to me (no offense intended). The base of the mast just seems a bit too wide for the antenna.

I'd ideally like something much smaller. I really like the look of the Alta antenna but don't think it's available locally (in Vancouver). I've seen some that look very similar to the Alta but are made for VW...

You must look around online. Check Mini Mania, Moss Mini, Mini Tuner, Alta etc. I think they all have stubby antennas for the MINI.

The VW unit will work. I know this because just last weekend I tried to put my old antennae on my girlfriends GTI. Hers was broken off by an errant turkey. Long story.

Anyway, my antennae would not screw down all the way as the stud is too long. We'll cut a bit off of it and it will work. The threads are the same and the VW piece fits the MINI. I don't think it makes any difference that the threaded stud is not as long.

We have a Honda Element, and that fits just fine. but what we did, was we just chopped our OEM down. ( we don't listen to radio any! Gotta love those little magnetic ones for satalite!) But we also have a regular tent pole as well.

Are you sure you were looking at an S2000 antenna? I have one and it fits perfectly, it doesn't look wide at the base at all. I think the pic in the post above is misleading - it's obviously not of a MINI.

I have tried quite a few, and the most resilient, best looking, and best functioning antenna I have tried is the S2000, so I would definitely give that a shot if it is not too long for your tastes.

Wow. An English car designed by an American with German engineering and a Brazilian engine and a Japanese antenna: now that's multi-culti! Jimbo

Here's a picture of my Alta antenna. (on the picture, the Alta sticker is missing, but Alta was kind enough to send me another one for free!!)

i wouldn't run an oem VW Sharan antenna- looks nice but has really poor radio reception. Just an fyi from a former R32 owner who didn't get to listen to the radio much...

cheers,
raghu

I think the difference might come in the fact that i've got a MCS cabrio and the antenna doesn't go straight up (it's off at an angle). It seems to look ok on the hardtop Mini but when I look at the S2000 antenna on a cabrio it just doesn't look right to me - I think I might end up going with the Alta. How is the radio reception?

Me too. I bought the adjustable one from shortyantenna and like the look. I just took the antenna off of my Touareg and the thread base is bigger than the Mini's. Plus, I can't take it out to exchange it for a smaller one. I would really like the look.
