Carbon fiber headlight rings
I installed these (from Umnitza) yesterday. No installation instructions included and quite a bit of work required to make them fit and look presentable (but I'm a perfectionist.)
Although I thought they replaced the OEM chrome rings, they actually fit over them. No adhesive supplied with the rings of course (no instructions, remember, so why would I expect glue?) But I removed the headlights (easy!) and then the chrome rings (not so easy, as they are clipped and double-sided taped on to the headlight body.) Removing the headlight washer covers is very difficult if you don't want to break them.
I roughed up the chrome and glued the CF on. After the epoxy had set, I Dremelled the CF to size as it is a little too big to fit over the chrome and into the holes in the bonnet (!)
Back to the car and reinstall--3 times--and they are on. I will post photos tomorrow (Mon).
Yet another bit of bling to make my car different. Of course, I'd like someone to actually notice some of this stuff I do to my car...
Another nail in the dechrome coffin.

Don't worry us MINIaics will notice it and appreciate it. Can't wait to see the pics. Sounds like it looks good

Here are the photos: The only chrome left on the entire car are the door handles and the emblems! woohoo.

Although not red, they seem to make the car go faster...at least according to my bum!
cheers,

swarley: coming from the original CF headlight ring guy, I'm taking that as a big thumbs up!! They look darker on your CR maybe because the contrast is higher. Sweet...

BiZzLeSMiNi: Yes, I've followed the JDM threads on putting the Xenons in the oven to open them up and do the dechroming. Geez, if they weren't $800 to replace when I mess them up I'd do it! I looked carefully at the lamps when I had them out, and with the chrome rings removed they still look like they would be a real biartch to pry open, heat or not... And there's so much ancillary stuff with the ballast and the high beams etc. Woo... My hat's off to those Japanese guys willing to do this, coz it looks fantastic, but too much for me.
btw, I love the look of your car--the red wheel flares, etc and especially the silver rim edges--that's the only way to go with black rims IMHO. There's a PW currently showing in the MINI talk thread--he's done a great job but I think the wheels are too black. Your's look just right!!
You need to powder coat your gas cap. I went with satin black, but yours would look great with gloss...mmm yummee.
PS for those considering these CF rings, I have an install writeup on my website. It's titled: Not as easy as it looks. There's a lot of work to make these things look like they were meant to fit...

RIVAL: I have to admit that while I like the end result, I'm pretty unimpressed with the product. I come from carbon fiber bicycles where the quality of CF fabrication is next to Formula One. The whole tuner street car market seems to be (mostly) populated with wannabes and hacks charging way too much for second rate layups. For $130 these CFWerks rings should have fitted like a glove--perfectly. Unfortunately it was only my vast experience with CF on bikes that gave me the confidence to work them hard to get them to fit and look good. Even then, they are far from perfect. Oh well.

Thanks cycleguru! Yes, you are the Master of Bling. If our cars got together would there be some matter-antimatter confluence? Like Bling-AntiBling. I recon they might actually get along just fine...
