Just installed mine. IMHO you need this. my cd wallet fits perfectly on the left. It will be a perfect place for my MP3 player to sit on the right. The bulkhead on the right has adequate space to drill and secure a port to plug in the MP3 player. IT looks cool too...

Can people on the outside see your cd wallet on the shelf? Just curious, since I'm always looking for a way to stash my cd's in the car without it being broken into.

I kinda cuts the dash apart. It is a neat idea though. Maybe I will give it a go.

How much did you pay for it, was it an easy install?

Does that cut down on the leg room for the driver?

Had the dealer order mine before I even took delivery of my Cooper. Installation is supposed to be ridiculously easy. Wouldn't be w/out it. I like it for the cool factor alone. Small stuff that would just rattle around the car can go there nicely, and it looks way better than the plain bolster, IMHO. Yes you can see things on it from outside the car, but I keep my CD's in a visor type holder which fits well under my seat- where it will not tempt theft. The sale price on it is a great buy- jump on it, I'd say.

Yeah, a lot of people are paying over $100 for this at their local dealer when Classic MINI has them for $60 or $69 shipped anywhere in the US!

If anyone can figure out the part number for the cubby bolster, Classic may be able to order it. I asked them about it and was told that they have an illustration of it but no means of obtaining the part number.

Classic has great prices on other items as well. Here are some of the other things I've ordered:
Union Jack $129.00
Carpet mats $68.10
Rubber boot mat $40.00
Sun shade $38.00
Oil filter $5.92
Cargo net $25
wiper blades $3.20 ea.

I just did a search trying to find a pic of the cubby bolster- I've seen it many times, but I couldn't locate it on this site, or on MINI2. Anybody know where it is? IMHO, it's a silly cross between the two- not quite good looking, and not quite functional.

You can't see items on the right side of the shelf from the outside of the car. I keep my cell phone there.

To any of you that are wavering about the parcel shelf, I say go for it. Great price, OEM fit and finish, extra leg room, more storage, and an easy to do but very rewarding installation process.

I found out at my dealer that the "Cubby Bolster" was never approved for sale in the US and it's to be removed from every car (about 90) that it was installed in. Basically if the dealer sees the part in your car they will remove it. The thinking is if there is an accident and you have a leg injury BMW could be liable.

The reason this came up was that they thought my Euro shelf was actually the cubby bolster the last time I was in there. They were prepared to take it out!

Wow, you mean when you went in for service, they threatened to remove it?!! My dealership service manager told me before I took delivery that they could give me the parcel shelf, but not install it for me. After it's in, what can they do?

I'm referring to the "cubby bolster" that was installed on some cars (I'm told about 90) from the factory. MINI wasn't suppose to have this part installed from the factory since it was not certified for use in the US. They could be liable in some cases since the part was installed from the factory. Thus they had to announce a bulliten to dealers to remove this item on affected cars to limit their liability.

The euro shelf is a different story - it's not installed from the factory for cars coming to the USA and thus MINI has no liability. Does that make more sense?

I hate having to shift a lot in my seat.. I had an accident once that way. Does this thing haev a lip to it ,, the picture make me think things woudl fall out of it while accelrating...

yesterday I finally got my car inspected and stareted to use it.
When my mechanic did the emission test, he had to reach the computer plug under the steering wheel, above the pedals, behind dhe dash. If I put the parcel shelf there, how he will reach the plug next time? I believe the shelf will be in the way.

The shelf is not in the way of this plug or anything. It actually gives you more knee room as well as more storage.
