Rear MudFlaps on my MCSC

I decided sometime back that I want to add rear mudflpas to my MCSC. i had them on my MC. I purchased the MINI rearflaps for the MC and also picked up a set of MC wheel arches. I removed the 'S' arches and installed the MC arches modified the rear trim a little and then installed the mudflaps. Took about two hours as I also rotated the tires, cleaned the wheels inside and out and also put undercoating inside the wheelwell on the actually body of the car to help with road noise.

Here is the result;

Looks good! What is your experience with whether the rear flaps keep the boot any cleaner?

Tell us more about the undercoating. What did you use and was it effective for road noise?

I just installed yesterday so the dirt report will have to wait for the weekend.

I used standard undercoating in three coats completely covering each wheel well. When I took the wheel wells out a while back I thought about this. The area is clean and primed with a little paint. I figured that any coating would be better than no coatings.

Did the rear flaps help when they were on your MC? I'm wondering particularly in the rain.

Yes they did help a little on my MC. I do think that they are worth the effort of installing

Ok it has been 10 days and I have driven with weater being dry and hot, (in the PNW) which means lots of dust. I have to say that the mudflaps have nade a difference, the back is cleaner ant with the top down it did not collect any dust. when I put the top up at the mall it was still clean. I am happy that I did this.

The new trim doesn't look like it matchs up to well with the original. Any pics from the side?

Great idea !

That's because they don't replace the wheel arches, but fit over them. I don't have them myself but have seen the installation instructions (I believe on MotoringFile).

But in the first post he says that he removed the S arches and replaced them with the new ones.

Hmmmm.....me thinks a how-to is needed

LOL

The rear flaps are designed for non-S Cooper only, and fit on top of the wheel arches. mini-rolls first replaced the S arches with Cooper arches, which allowed him to do the regular installation procedure for the flaps.

The photo was right after the install, the trim is more rubbery andI did not add any treatment to the mudflpas yet as I wanted the body tape on the inside of flap to cure to the arches.

Does it match up good with the existing trim?

What mini-rolls has done is to show that the rear flaps can be fitted on an S, though they were originally intended for the Cooper. Here's how they look on a Cooper (UK version without arch lights, from a MINI2 member's gallery):

They do match up pretty good, but they do sit on top of the tirm so you do have a small lip where the mudflaps starts and ends.

It appears that the Cooper trim is a bit more smooth than the S trim. Is that true?

No, it still sits on top of the existing trim.

If I may ask what kind of cost did you incur with these mods? I've wanted a set of rear flaps but haven't yet.

Why would MINI make mudflaps for the MC, but not the MCS? Are the MCSs not worthy of madflaps??

No idea. I have them on my Cooper and they are OK...the back end still gets dirty, but not as fast as not having them on the car. I like them, though, as they seem to "finish" the back end. I've even had them replaced once, due to someone/thing having broken one side. It's probably too inconvenient for MINI to configure one for the S, since the S rear is different from the Cooper. Besides, a lot of MINI owners sneer at those of us who have added the rear mudflaps [ie., "not being cool", "looking like a VW Rabbit", etc.], so they are probably only popular among those who are unaffected by such commentary.

I was out driving yesterday and ran into some rain and wet pavement. During this part of my drive the rear window stayed cleaner and did not get as dirty as it did prior to the install. Also upon returning home the back of the mini was not as dirt as prior to the install also. They work as well as can be expected.

Could you post exactly which parts are needed? I am clear we are to purchase the MC rear flaps... then is there a part number/resource for the partial arch replacement? How do the arches come off/go back on? Do we need clips also?

Thanks! I really want this look and convenience and am befuddled about why we can't have MCS parts for the rear... grrrrr
