Rubber shift boot mod

There was an old thread (which I can't find right now) discussing replacing the leather shift boot with a rubber one from a Tiburon. Well, I finally found a supplier for it!

Here is a pic of my install, including my new UUC ****. I also added a short stainless steel tube/spacer around the shifter shaft to give it a bit more thickness.

FYI, The supplier is called Motor Impact www.motorimpact.com

The specific part: http://motorimpact.com/shop/product_...products_id=36

I fixed the link in the original message and put in a link to the specific part.

Also, you can get the cupholder here: www.mini-stuff.com

Not to take this too far OT, but is that two sets of toggles?

heh. you noticed that, eh? Those are for my *other* add-ons...seat eject, rockets, oil slick, etc. etc.

At one point I purchased a full bank of switches, so I decided to mount the other one below it. It involved a bit of grinding of slots in the downtube (which I later painted black), but it looks like it was always meant to be there...

Intresting and unique mod. Kudos!

I like the boot mod BTW, but I have always been a fan of the gated sifter like the Ferrari:

The shift boot is a Hyundai Tiburon boot. It does not fit exactly having a larger diameter than the plastic part on the MINI boot that holds the boot on. I did some detailed and intricate work on mine to get it fit, and it looks different to the photo shown, not sitting so high. It is "sticky" rubber and collects fine lint quite well, but easy to clean with Windex or any kind of interior vinyl cleaner.

cheers,

thought long and hard about that actually, but it doesn't fit with the 'upscale' look to the interior. I got the upgraded seats and the plate just looks odd to me.

I did find a 'accordian-style' rubber boot for an MG on eBay tonight. From the Moss catalog. It was only $12/shipped....we'll see how it works out.

Too funny that the first thing that comes to mind getting in those grooves is flakey skin. I'm still laughing.

He's a Vendor on this site. (And a helluva nice guy!)
I had my Whalen even before I had my MINI! I'd sit in my TV chair and make Vroom-Vroom sounds while "shifting".

Ah... i've seen the whalen *****... and thought maybe that was one, but didn't know they could be engraved. Thanks!! They look great. I'll have to wait to get my MCS first and see how I like the OEM ****.
